With the Beolit 20, Bang & Olufsen has introduced a new Wireless Bluetooth speaker with a portable power bank, including a wireless Qi charger and a stylish aluminum housing – the manufacturer promises excellent sound, but the portable Bluetooth speakers are not cheap.
With the Beolit 20, Bang & Olufsen is relaunching a classic Bluetooth speaker. As usual with the company’s products, the focus is on the chic design and the sound: B&O promises a “True360” sound, over three 38 millimeter full-range speakers, a 140-millimeter woofer, and two passive 100-millimeter drivers in two 35 watt class D amplifiers should be able to reproduce a frequency range from 37 Hz to 20 kHz. The maximum volume is specified as 93 dB SPL.
The connection to the smartphone is via Bluetooth 4.2, whereby only the AAC and SBC codecs are supported, there is no trace of the higher quality Qualcomm aptX Adaptive or Sony LDAC. Alternatively, a 3.5 mm AUX plug is also available. The volume or music playback can be controlled via buttons on the top.
The highest sound quality Bluetooth speaker, which weighs 2.7 kilograms, has a 3,200 mAh battery, which should provide eight hours of playback at “normal listening volume”, and 37 hours should be possible with low background sound. A full charge via USB-C takes three hours. A special feature is that the Beolit 20 also serves as a power bank – there is a Qi charging coil on the top, which can be used to charge smartphones or completely wireless earphones with up to 5 watts.
