B O audio launched the Beosound Balance speaker. The latest addition to the Danish brand’s product range was made in collaboration with designer Benjamin Hubert of the British studio LAYER.
B/O Beosound Balance is composed of an oak base designed to guarantee the stability of the speaker. The cylindrical shape upper part is in aluminum covered with seamless soft wool. The measures are 38 (H) x 20 (L) x 20 (P) cm with a weight of 7.2 kilograms.
Inside there are seven drivers managed by as many amplifiers: one 1.91 cm tweeter driven by 1 80 W Class D amplifier, two 5.08 cm full-range transducers driven by 2 100 W Class D amplifiers, two 7.62 cm full-range transducers driven by 2 100 W Class D amplifiers and two 13.34 cm woofers driven by 2 200 W Class D amplifiers.
The data sheet reports a frequency response between 37 Hz and 23 kHz and maximum sound pressure of 104 dB.
There are two listening modes into this Bang and Olufsen sound system: the first is omnidirectional and therefore spreads the sound in all directions in a uniform way, to ensure pleasant listening from multiple positions. The second directs the music towards the listener to increase precision and quality.
The Bang Olufsen audio Beosound Balance is also equipped with an environmental acoustic compensation system. At the first start, a guided tour starts which use the built-in microphones to compensate for the sonic reflections of the home. Low-frequency sounds are emitted to analyze the room and apply the appropriate corrections.
Microphones are also used to manage voice assistants. The speaker is compatible with Google Assistant and will also embrace Amazon’s Alexa by the end of 2020 (via an update). The equipment also includes the functions of Google Chromecast, AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect (by mid-2020). As for connectivity, we find the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, 2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth 5.0, two 10/100 Ethernet ports and input on a 3.5 mm jack that combines analog and digital optical. Two B O audio Beosound Balance can be paired wirelessly to form a stereo configuration and it is also possible to build multi-room systems to spread music in various rooms.
Bang & Olufsen has not overlooked the user interface, located on the upper side and based on touch interaction. When the user approaches the speaker, the controls light up and allow you to adjust the volume, change tracks, pause and select your preferred listening mode. When you move away from the speaker the brightness gradually fades and only the aluminum surface remains visible.
