As with so many ultrabooks, the Asus ZenBook S UX393 has so far used a 16:9 display, which was optionally available with a 1080p or 4K panel. This has now changed with the new UX393. In addition to Intel Tiger Lake, the latest model has a 13.9-inch display in a practical 3:2 format and with a reasonable resolution.
Asus has already presented a whole range of new ultrabooks recently, many of which are available with a 4K OLED Multi Touch screen, such as the Zen Book Flip S or the new ZenBook Flip 13 & 15. The ZenBook S UX393 takes a slightly different approach: You have to do without OLED with this model, but the Asus ultrabook is equipped with a 13.9-inch display with a 3.3K resolution – this corresponds to a resolution of 3,300 x 2,200 pixels, and a pixel density of 285 PPI.
This means that the screen is slightly larger and more high-resolution than that of the Microsoft Surface 3 (Unboxing) (from $650 on Amazon), the format corresponds to the Huawei MateBook X Pro, but due to a Pantone certification, the panel should be a bit more accurate, the DCI-P3 Color space can be displayed completely. The touchscreen achieves a brightness of a remarkable 500 nits.
Inside the case, which weighs 1.35 kilograms and is 15.7 millimeters thin, is a brand new Intel Tiger Lake-U chip with an integrated Xe graphics unit. The ultrabook includes up to 16 GB of RAM, a maximum of 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 M.4 SSD, and a decent selection of connections, including two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI, and a microSD Card reader.
The 67 Wh battery should last up to 11 hours. As little extras, the ZenBook S offers the Asus-typical ErgoLift hinge, which automatically angles the keyboard a little when it is opened, an infrared camera for Windows Hello login via face recognition, and the NumberPad 2.0 – a number pad integrated into the trackpad.
