This type of compression allows you to convey a signal at 4K and 144 h through a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection and without resorting to chromatic sub-sampling which negatively affects the display quality.

In the absence of this technology, 4k monitor 144hz can only support the refresh rate of 98hz at 4k with 4: 4: 4 HDR color sampling. There is talk of a required bandwidth of about 43 Gbps, higher than that available with DisplayPort 1.4.

To achieve this level of performance without DSC, game monitor requires two DisplayPort connections to transfer the video signal from the PC. This typically requires complex driver configuration and prevents the display of HDR content and variable update rates during the game. The new ROG 144 hz Monitor eliminates all these problems, supporting both HDR and variable refresh rates via a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection.
