CES 2021 | Asus Promises Maximum Performance With Liquid Metal Cooling With ROG Strix SCAR 15 and 17

A 360 Hz display in combination with a Ryzen 9 5900HX and a GeForce RTX 3080 with 16 GB GDDR6 graphics memory – the latest Asus ROG Strix SCAR gaming notebooks are aimed specifically at eSpot enthusiasts who expect the best possible frame rate and response time on the go.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15

Asus states that the new ROG Strix SCAR series is the world’s first commercially available gaming notebook that uses liquid metal to dissipate heat from an AMD Ryzen processor. To do this, the company said it had to develop a new manufacturing process that applies the liquid metal with enormous precision.

In combination with the improved fan design, which can transport up to 35 percent more air at the same volume, significantly better cooling with less noise should be possible. And that should be necessary, because Asus relies on high-end chips, including the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 with 16 GB GDDR6 graphics memory. A Ryzen 7 5800H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 can already be found in the base model.

All of this is housed in a housing that is seven percent smaller than that of the previous model. The 15-inch model weighs 2.3 kg, the larger model 2.6 kg, and both notebooks are a maximum of around 27 millimeters thick. The keyboard has RGB lighting, the numeric keypad can be found in the trackpad on the smaller model, while the SCAR 17 has a dedicated numeric keypad. The notebooks offer Wi-Fi 6, HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, and Ethernet.

There are also some audiovisual upgrades: The speakers should be almost three times as loud as those of the previous model, the SCAR 15’s display comes standard with a 15.6-inch 1080p panel with a frame rate of 300 Hz, the 17.3-inch panel of the SCAR 17 is even 360 Hz fast. On request, both notebooks are also available with a 165 Hz 1.440p screen that can display the full DCI-P3 color space.
