Asus NUC 14 Pro Review
User-Friendly Design Even for Beginners
The Asus NUC 14 Pro features an Intel CPU and a pre-installed motherboard in a sturdy plastic chassis. Users can customize their system by adding memory modules and SSDs based on their needs. Our Asus NUC 14 Pro review model features Ultra 7 155H CPU with 16 cores and 22 threads. This powerful processor is well-suited for various tasks, including the latest AI applications. Asus pre-installed 16GB of DDR5 memory, a 512GB SSD, and Windows 11. This setup is ideal for home or office use.
One of the main advantages of the NUC 14 Pro is its ease of customization. Users can upgrade the Intel NUC by installing additional memory modules or larger storage drives. This customization allows them to handle large image collections or run demanding video editing applications. The desktop barebones kit allows for this flexibility, allowing users to tailor the system to their needs.
The Asus NUC 14 Pro offers extensive connectivity options, ensuring its versatility in numerous scenarios. The front panel includes two full-size USB ports, ideal for connecting devices like USB flash drives. It also features a USB-C port for conveniently connecting smartphones and other compatible devices. The back of the device features various USB and Thunderbolt ports, plus an HDMI port for display connections. It also includes a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port for fast network access, essential for server use.
Setting up the NUC 14 Pro is straightforward, even for beginners. Users only need to open the chassis and install their chosen hardware components. Experienced builders will find the process easy, and first-time users will also manage it without difficulty.
Unfortunately, the NUC 14 Pro’s outer shell is still plastic, even though it is quite sturdy. Additionally, the disassembly process is not “tool-free” and requires a flat-head screwdriver to unlock and access the internal components.

Performance
The NUC 14 Pro features a range of Intel Core Ultra processors, from the Core Ultra 5 125H to the high-end Core Ultra 7 165H. Our Asus NUC 14 Pro review unit has a 16-core, 22-thread CPU, delivering excellent multi-threaded performance for demanding workloads and even AI applications. With up to 48GB of DDR5 memory and multiple storage options, including two M.2 slots and a 2.5-inch SATA bay, the NUC 14 Pro is well-equipped to handle various tasks.
The integrated Intel ARC graphics with 8 Xe cores mark a substantial upgrade from the previous Iris Xe generation. This enhancement improves graphics performance. Although it doesn’t reach the level of a discrete GPU, it efficiently manages everyday tasks, multimedia entertainment, and light gaming.
In our Asus NUC 14 Pro review, the mini PC excelled in single-core and multi-core tasks. It achieved an impressive score of 6,042 in PCMark 10, which simulates real-world productivity tasks. Additionally, it recorded 1,748 in single-core and 16,575 in multi-core performance on CineBench R23. Although the NUC 14 Pro’s integrated graphics limit its gaming performance, it can still handle casual games such as League of Legends and CS:GO. Additionally, it manages multi-monitor setups with ease.
During moderate usage, the CPU and motherboard temperatures range from 75 to 80 degrees Celsius. However, they can exceed 90 degrees Celsius under benchmarking conditions.
Thermal performance is quite good, with a compact chassis and internal fans that help control temperatures under heavy loads. However, the fans can get noisy when performing intensive tasks, which can be a concern for users who need to work in a quiet environment.
Upgrade and Expansion Options
One of the strengths of the NUC 14 Pro is its upgradeability. Users can easily access the interior to upgrade the RAM (up to 96GB) and storage (two M.2 slots and one 2.5-inch SATA bay). However, this process is not entirely tool-free, and the fragile ribbon cable connecting the bottom panel to the motherboard requires careful handling.
Note that the second M.2 slot only supports the smaller 2242 size. Additionally, neither slot includes heatsink support, which may affect thermal performance during extended use.
Thunderbolt 4 is a welcome addition, enabling high-speed data transfers, external GPU support, and multi-monitor setups. The optional daughterboard adds a second LAN port and another USB Type-A port, further expanding connectivity options.
However, the NUC 14 Pro faces stiff competition from brands like Acemagic and GMKtec, which offer mini PCs with similar specs at lower prices. Some competitors feature metal chassis and more streamlined upgrade processes, putting pressure on Asus to improve the design and value of the NUC 14 Pro.
Final line
The Asus NUC 14 Pro is a powerful and versatile mini PC, making it an excellent choice for professionals and power users seeking a compact, travel-friendly workstation. Moreover, its strong performance and excellent connectivity enhance its suitability for various tasks. Additionally, the upgrade options available make it a great fit for productivity, content creation, and even light gaming.
However, its plastic build, relatively complicated upgrade process, lack of audio jacks, and high price may put some potential buyers off. While the NUC 14 Pro may not offer the best value, its powerful Intel Core Ultra processor and Thunderbolt 4 support make it a compelling choice for users who value performance and connectivity in a compact device.
