Not only does it have a small, soft, and professional appearance, but the Asus ExpertBook P5 review highlights its qualities, power, and potential to handle all tasks perfectly and thoughtfully.

The new generation ExpertBook P5 continuously takes me from one surprise to another. It showcases a spectacular transformation with elite hardware, perfect performance, and the most extended battery life in the ExpertBook series. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Asus ExpertBook P5 is better in almost every aspect when compared to the Asus Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024.
Asus ExpertBook P5 Review
Design
Asus removes the VGA and LAN ports, shrinks the hinge cluster, and seals the heat dissipation slots on both sides. These things make it 2cm thick, heavy, and too thick like the previous ExpertBook B1 and P5 gaming laptops. However, the ExpertBook P5 lightweight business laptop has a different ambition to compete in connection ports than before.

The new ExpertBook P5 no longer has the same mechanical, square, rigid appearance. Now, everything has been refined and redesigned by Asus, creating a new laptop with the same 14-inch size as before. Still, it is soft, luxurious, and sophisticated in every centimeter, weighing only 1.27kg. The thickness is only 1.5cm, instead of the previous 2cm thick.
Despite being significantly thinner and lighter than previous generations of ExpertBooks, the ExpertBook P5 still maintains outstanding durability with military standard MIL-STD-810H. The hinges and connection ports are firmly reinforced and strong enough to withstand impacts in unexpected situations. In particular, the water-resistant keyboard is a big plus, giving you more peace of mind against everyday office spills. So, there are no more worries when working.

The square corners have disappeared, replaced by softer, more curved, and more delicately beveled edges than ever before. The laptop’s construction materials have also been changed from all-plastic on the old ExpertBook B series to full-body aluminum for the new ExpertBook P5. It is a worthy upgrade for a business-focused ultrabook lineup that has transitioned from the low-cost mid-range segment to a top high-end position.
The single-axis hinge design replaces the previous two-axis but still feels sturdy and durable. The feeling of opening the ExpertBook P5’s lid is still very sturdy, requiring one hand to hold the body and one hand to open the lid. You may find it inconvenient sometimes, but this is an essential feature to bring long-term durability to the laptop.

When I opened the device, the screen cluster immediately caught my eye. The top and bottom edges are still somewhat thick, less thin than the two side edges. But, a big but, that is the screen is completely covered with glass, not the rough plastic edges like before. The corners are curved instead of square, looking much more comfortable. The keyboard and touchpad cluster sit below in a wonderfully balanced layout.

The change in body material also brings significant physical benefits. Even with sweaty hands, the Asus ExpertBook P5’s body remains free of visible dirt. The bottom of the device is nothing too outstanding; it is just a little more beautiful and sophisticated. The design narrows the two main grilles, placing the speaker grilles below the two edges.
Connectivity
As I said at the beginning of the design section, removing 2 “redundant” connection ports, such as VGA and LAN, on an office laptop like the Asus ExpertBook P5 is necessary. Separate monitors with only a VGA port for image input are now rare. Portable laptops for professionals today include lightning-fast Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7.

Reducing connection ports and rearrangement with 2 Type-C ThunderBolt 4 ports, HDMI, 3.5mm AUX, and 2 USB-A ports greatly benefit ExpertBook P5. It reduces thickness and increases convenience when all peripheral devices have new connection and data transmission standards. Also provides a faster 65W charging speed than ever before.

It still includes a Kensington Nano Security Slot lock and a high-end TPM 2.0 security chip. This ensures comprehensive protection for all data and sensitive information of individual users and businesses.
Display
The Asus ExpertBook P5 features a 14-inch all-glass display cluster. It uses a high-end WVA panel, outperforming TN and IPS LCD in quality. The display delivers a WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution, also known as 2.5K, with 400 nits of brightness and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Never before has an Ultrabook had such a high refresh rate.

This is Asus’s first business-focused ultrabook to feature a 144Hz IPS LCD screen and a resolution of up to 2.5K! No other brand has ever had an Ultrabook with a high screen refresh rate. The most common is only 120Hz. The screen border is no longer plastic but a beautiful and luxurious full-edge glass panel.
And for those still wondering whether the 2.5K resolution on the IPS LCD screen is as beautiful as OLED? The answer is yes; it is still gorgeous and bright but less brilliant and fresh than OLED. However, ExpertBook P5 is one of the Copilot+ PCs with the most beautiful screen this year.
The WVA panel offers a 178-degree viewing angle, maintaining color and brightness even when the screen is tilted. In general, regarding perfection and standard display, WVA is utterly superior to IPS LCD and TN.

Reading newspapers, tracking stocks, or observing Bitcoin’s peak and bottom fluctuations are smooth experiences on the ExpertBook P5 screen. Working with software, watching 4K videos and movies, and listening to music are equally seamless and perfect. Whether outdoors or in the office, the laptop screen does not glare, the audiovisual experience is pleasant, and working is always comfortable and highly efficient.
On the top edge of the screen, there will be a webcam and a privacy switch or cover. However, the camera cover inside has a striped pattern that looks relatively new, instead of just dull black or traditional orange-red. The webcam quality is excellent, with good light capture, providing a clear image of the person. It also includes the AI Windows Studio Effect toolkit to beautify and blur the background, making it convenient for any meeting.
It includes audiovisual features and an AI tool, ExpertWidget, for shortcut customization, along with ExpertMeet, an AI secretary.

There will be four tools included. AI Translated Subtitles will help translate directly from the speaker’s audio source. AI Noise Cancellation will reduce noise. And AI Camera will provide maximum support for online meetings. Finally, Watermark, too familiar, quickly inserts a blurred logo into the photo without needing Lightroom.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The ExpertBook P5 inherits the outstanding hardware advantages from the Zenbook. The key arrangement and layout eliminate extra spaces on the arrow keys, which I appreciate.

The Zenbook generations from past to present, as well as the previous ExpertBook B1, all have tiny arrow keys. For an OCD person who loves perfection like me, the keyboard of the ExpertBook P5 is too balanced.
The typing experience on the new ExpertBook still brings a familiar feeling. The chiclet keyboard has moderate travel, and the distance between the keys is regular. This design provides ergonomics and ensures comfort and safety for the hands and joint muscles during long typing sessions.

Another essential piece of information: the ExpertBook P5’s chiclet keyboard is 100% waterproof for office workers who often order Starbucks. Placing coffee next to the laptop does not risk damaging the device if you accidentally spill water on the keyboard.

The ExpertBook P5’s touchpad doesn’t extend to the bottom edge of the C-side like the Zenbook. Instead, the spacious area remains the same (13cm x 8cm) within the palm rest. The feeling of using this touchpad cluster is similar to that of a MacBook.
Asus ExpertBook P5 review test
The Asus ExpertBook P5 features a transformed appearance and enhanced performance with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V. The latest AI CPU features 8 cores and 8 threads, delivering power that commands respect.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V features the Intel Arc 140V iGPU, offering formidable power comparable to the Radeon 890M. It also comes with 32GB of default onboard DDR5 RAM, eliminating the need for upgrades. It has risen to the top of the Asus family tree this year.

Continue the Asus ExpertBook P5 review with the single-core and multi-core graphics processing capabilities with the Cinebench R23 and R24 tests. With R23, we can see that the multi-core power threshold will be significantly affected in the two conditions of charging and unplugging. Therefore, to optimize power when performing mid-range and high-end graphics tasks. Users always need to plug in the charger for the device.

Geekbench 6 and PCMark10 will certify the device’s ability to handle multitasking for office work. They test performance when opening multiple software and browser windows simultaneously while the user performs other tasks. Everything is smooth and seamless; if desired, the GPU score is impressive enough to play games simultaneously.

With 3DMark, ExpertBook P5 shows impressive gaming capabilities. However, being impressive here means something other than the smooth playing of high-end AAA titles. Therefore, I only recommend that users play Esports games and a few previous-generation AAA titles. Light indie titles like Core Keeper or Dave the Diver are also highly recommended for the smoothest experience.

Play League of Legends in Full HD resolution with the highest settings:

PugetBench will evaluate the ability to process images, edit movies, and basic video clips with two popular software, Premier and Photoshop. Therefore, ExpertBook P5 does these tasks well. Firstly, because it has 32GB of DDR5 RAM, which is more than enough for all heavy needs, and secondly, the machine’s beautiful, standard 2.5K screen.

The SSD read and write speed, when measured with Crystaldiskmark Aoi, also shows accuracy when Asus did not throttle the hardware speed. The read speed of 6387Mb/s and write speed of 5712Mb/s is currently the fastest speed threshold to bring the quickest application startup time and data transfer. This speed is even faster than some high-end laptop models.

Performance Comparison
Comparing the performance of the Asus ExpertBook P5 with the previous ExpertBook B1, the B5 series would be pretty redundant. Office CPUs like i5-1235U or even i7-1335U have a different performance level than Intel Core Ultra 7 258V. The ExpertBook P5 is much more powerful and optimized for work.
I experienced both of Asus’s latest Ultrabooks equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V: the Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024 (REVIEW) and the ExpertBook P5. I was surprised because, until now, I believed the Zenbook series was always the most power-optimized Ultrabook line in the company’s family. However, this year proved me wrong.

I have made a quick comparison table between 3 new generations of Copilot+ PCs using Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, including our Asus ExpertBook P5 review model with Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition, Asus Zenbook S 14 OLED, Vivobook S 14 OLED 2024 (AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370), and Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon X Elite). Please follow and continue to evaluate and compare.

In the Cinebench R23 comparison, the ExpertBook P5 outperforms the new Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024. The reason is that Zenbook focuses on impressive hardware and just enough performance to meet the needs of frequent travel, which is the nature of Zenbook. In terms of single-core and multi-core graphics processing power and CPU, Lenovo is leading and slightly better than the ExpertBook P5. However, the number 1 position remains the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

With Cinebench R24, Surface Pro 11 leads both single and multi-core performance. However, despite the power, an ARM chip like the Snapdragon X Elite is still very picky about software compatibility. Therefore, in terms of practicality and real-world power, ExpertBook P5 is still the best.

Geekbench 6 gives a surprising result when in the same Intel Core Ultra series 2 world, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition has more comprehensive power than ExpertBook P5 and Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024. Lenovo has done so well in optimizing performance that even AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 on Vivobook S 14 OLED 2024 (REVIEW) cannot keep up.

Regarding 3DMark and PugetBench, the comparison shows that the Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024 is slightly superior in gaming performance compared to the ExpertBook P5 and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition. However, regarding image processing, the ExpertBook P5 is still leading with better graphics processing performance with Photoshop than the other two Ultrabooks.
Battery life
Our Asus ExpertBook P5 review unit worked seamlessly with us for 14 hours. It thoroughly handled all tasks from start to finish throughout the day. According to Intel, Intel Core Ultra 7 258V is optimized for power while consuming only ⅓ of the previous power. In this model, Asus has optimized the battery life to reach 14 hours.

Compared to the Zenbook S 14 OLED 2024 and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition, the OLED panel has significantly drained the battery of both Ultrabooks. The Vivobook S 14 OLED 2024 offers no improvement, and AMD has yet to optimize the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 for performance or energy efficiency. Therefore, these three machines can only last 13 hours or less.
Final line
I am really impressed with the transformation of Asus’s ExpertBook series this year. I almost couldn’t recognize it this year. The Asus ExpertBook P5 features a beautiful design that is thinner and lighter than before, offering superior power, excellent cooling, and high-level security. It is ideal for medium-sized businesses and excels at quickly meeting the needs of AI processing or frequent multinational online meetings.
Not only is it exquisitely beautiful, but ExpertBook P5 has shown the essence of software and hardware power to bring a more professional and intelligent working style than ever. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the best ExpertBook Asus has ever created, and it surprised me.
With a price of $1,199.99 on Amazon for the highest configuration equipped with Ultra 7-258V, the Asus ExpertBook P5 is an ideal choice for companies and small businesses looking for a secure, durable, and beautifully designed laptop. In particular, the ability to exploit the machine’s intelligent AI features will bring outstanding value, helping to optimize work performance, making this an investment worth considering.
