Along with the new Mac Mini and Macbook Pro 2020, Apple has also introduced a new edition of the Apple MacBook Air 13 2020 with the new, in-house M1 chip. This should enable high performance and long runtime.
The new Apple MacBook Air 2020 is official. As expected, Apple is equipping the new, compact notebook with its own M1 chip, which is intended to increase both performance and efficiency. Specifically, the model should act up to three and a half times as fast as its predecessor and thus also be able to cope with demanding tasks – specifically, the model should be possible as a mobile device for processing images. The M1 chip should also have a positive influence on the speed of the built-in SSD.
Apple also states that video editing from two 4K sources should be possible for the first time without frame drops. The M1 chip should enable a completely fanless design. With regard to the specific performance information, Apple remains rather vague, at least in the keynote – but if the integrated graphics are actually only about five times as fast as the predecessor, this should represent an enormous improvement.
According to the manufacturer, the 2020 MacBook Air should be faster than 98 percent of the Windows laptops sold last year, although Apple does not provide any information on the metric. The maximum battery life in WiFi mode, on the other hand, is precisely estimated at a maximum of 15 hours, and video material should be able to be played back for up to 18 hours.
Both the retina display and the camera quality should also have been improved. In addition, Touch ID is supported for secure authentication, but Face Unlock has not yet been discussed. The 13.3-inch display has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and can map the P3 space. WiFi 6, Thunderbolt, and USB 4.0 are supported and can be ordered with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM and a two terabyte SSD.
