Apogee Duet 3 USB-C mobile audio interface

The Apogee Duet has long been the benchmark for high-quality, compact audio interfaces that are perfect for mobile use. Now the manufacturer presents the successor with the Duet 3. And the update is really tough. The m audio interface not only gets an even slimmer, more modern design. The new version also has contemporary USB-C connections and has also been given an integrated DSP.

As before, the Apogee Duet 3 is an audio interface for Mac and PC with two input and four output channels. A breakout cable provides two microphones/lines and two instrument inputs as well as two line outputs. There is also a headphone output on the front. However, the design has been revised and the new Duet 3 is even flatter and more compact than the previous version.

In addition to the connection for the breakout cable, there are now two USB-C connections on the back, which replace the USB-B connection of the previous Duet. Thanks to the two connections, the mini USB audio interface can be supplied with power separately if required. Apogee optionally offers the Duet Desktop Dock, with which the USB C audio interface can be positioned at an angle on the table.

The characteristic large multi-function controller on the control panel made of scratch-resistant glass is now backlit and controls the monitor volume and the pre-amplification of the microphone inputs. There are also two LED-level displays.

As a further innovation, Apogee has given the audio interface an integrated hardware audio DSP like the Symphony Desktop. The in-house Symphony ECS channel strip runs on it, which means that it can be used with low latency when recording. This is controlled on the computer via the new Apogee Control 2 software and the Apogee Channel FX plug-in. The plug-in is not included in the price of the audio interface.
