Amazon announced the next generation of the popular Kindle Paperwhite e-reader with three new models: Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, and the first Kindle Paperwhite Kids. The new Kindle Paperwhite has a larger display than the 10th generation Kindle Paperwhite, a front light with adjustable color temperature, and a battery life of up to 10 weeks. The new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition eReader model also automatically controls the lighting via a light sensor and is the first Kindle with support for wireless charging.

The new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite offers a 6.8-inch display with a narrow bezel (10.2 mm), and a slim, completely flat front design. The 300 PPI display prevents mirror effects, shows text razor-sharp, and enables reading like on printed paper. Amazon has also given the Kindle Paperwhite (2021) a display that is up to 10 percent brighter, with color temperature settings and a white-on-black-dark mode. With the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, the brightness of the display also automatically adapts to the light conditions of the surroundings.

Amazon’s new Paperwhite Kindle is IPx8 certified and thus protected against accidental immersion in water. It uses 8 GB of storage space, the Signature Edition has 32 GB of storage space for thousands of books and numerous audiobooks and magazines on board. With the new generation of Kindle Paperwhite, the battery life of the e-reader is also extended: Amazon names up to 10 weeks of battery life for Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. According to Amazon, a full charge via USB-C only takes 2.5 hours if an adapter with 9 watts or more is used. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is also the first Kindle to allow wireless charging and is compatible with any Qi wireless charger.

As Amazon points out, the Kindle user interface has also been redesigned with numerous new features to make the Kindle Paperwhite experience easier and more intuitive. The new Kindle interface offers smoother navigation with direct access to the start page, library, and the current book. The redesigned library includes new filtering and sorting functions, a new view for collections, and an interactive scroll bar.

Amazon also announced the Kindle Paperwhite Kids – the first Paperwhite device designed specifically for the young readership. The Kindle Paperwhite Kids comes with a child-friendly cover, one-year Amazon Kids +, and a 2-year worry-free guarantee.
