Amazon renews its Kindle e-book readers, presenting the new Kindle Oasis Waterproof. It has been refreshed in many ways over last year’s model: a larger 7-inch display and IPX68 certification. The e-commerce giant can propose the first waterproof Kindle Ebook reader, and also change the materials, while the price is lower than the 2016 model.
It is interesting to note that a brighter 7-inch 300ppi screen, slightly larger than the previous model. In fact, the new touchscreen display allows you to see 30 percent more words than the previous model. There is no change in the reading mode even in low light conditions thanks to the backlight.
The design of the device is same as the previous model: it is characterized by an ergonomic design that moves the center of gravity of the device to the hand, replicating the same effect as the back of a paper book. The slimmest part of the body measures only 3.4 mm and is now entirely made of aluminum. The shell, combined with the display glass lining, gives life to an e-reader weighs 194 grams, 10 grams less than the Kindle Paperwhite.
The IPX68 certification guarantees the ability to immerse the device in fresh water up to two meters deep for a maximum of 60 minutes. Therefore, new Amazon Kindle Oasis 2017 model is water-resistant, splash-resistant and dives into the pool as well. The storage front shows the availability in two variants: 8GB / 32GB of built-in storage. Kindel Oasis 2017 is available in both the WiFi-only and 4G LTE connectivity.
There are several software updates that make it more exclusive for reading settings: new size fonts (bigger than the previous) and five bold levels, new accessibility options, a renewal of the light regulation options and the ability to read the texts aligned to the left.
Please note that new font sizes, bold levels, and left alignment will also be available for Kindle Paperwhite (sixth generation) via OTA update.
Kindle Oasis Waterproof Price and Availability
Kindle Oasis can be pre-ordered via Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk, and pricing starting from $349.99 / £319.99 for 4G version with 32GB storage. The base model without 4G capability and with 8GB of storage – costs $269.99 / £229.99; while $299.99 / £259.99 for 32GB storage model.
Amazon has also provided a special case that can turn into a stand to read without using hands. The accessory is available in two different materials and multiple colors: Water-safe fabric standing cover priced at $44.99 / £39.99. While the Leather standing cover at $59.99 / £54.99.
Amazon Kindle Oasis 2017 covers are now wider than the previous model, no longer requires the use of an integrated battery case. Interesting users can book the new Kindle Oasis Waterproof today and will be released on October 31, 2017.
