Amazfit PowerBuds Pro Review: Technically Advanced, Good Sound

Good wireless earbuds have become an indispensable companion not only for work but also during training. There are many Bluetooth wireless headphones with a sporty style, but most manufacturers limit themselves to flashy designs. Amazfit decided to go further: They released the best noise cancelling wireless earbuds with a heart rate monitor. Is this really a useful feature or just another marketing gimmick? Let’s see in this Amazfit PowerBuds Pro review.

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro Review

Design

Usually, sports Bluetooth wireless headphones have deliberately aggressive designs and bright colors. However, the PowerBuds Pro looks surprisingly clean. This look goes well with any wardrobe and is appropriate in any setting.

The case is made of matte plastic, which doesn’t collect dirt and prints. You can not find defects in the quality of materials and assembly – the model seems solid and reliable. It also protects against moisture and dust as per IP55 standards. You can also take a shower with earbuds on, the main thing is not to overdo it with pressure. But saltwater is best avoided: it can oxidize the charging contacts and disable devices.

The dimensions of the wireless Bluetooth earbuds are quite large, so owners of small ears should try on the gadget before buying. The sound guides are positioned at an angle and have a locking notch for the ear pads. Compensation holes are located nearby, through which excess pressure is released. Due to this, there is no effect of congestion in the ears.

The most interesting detail is the heart rate monitor window located on the sound guide of the right earbud. Plus, there are proximity sensors on the inside – the PowerBuds Pro senses when they’re taken out of the ears, and pauses the music.

Due to the non-standard shape of the sound guide and the protruding mount, third-party ear pads are unlikely to work. But the set includes four pairs of silicone tips of different diameters, so it’s easy to pick up the option for yourself.

The earbuds come with a USB-C charging case. It is also made of matte plastic and has a magnetic cover. On the front, there is an LED indicator that informs you about the connection and remaining charges. A pairing button was placed at the back, and a USB-C port was brought down to the side with chrome edging.

Connectivity

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro supports the Google Fast Pair function for easy pairing with Android smartphones. When the case is opened, a notification from “Google Assistant” with information about the device will be sent to the phone, and a “Connect” button will appear in the pop-up window. It is also wireless earbuds for iPhone, they will have to connect manually by going to the Bluetooth settings.

Each earbud connects independently to the other, eliminating sync issues. The connection range reaches 10 meters, you can leave the phone on charge and go to the next room – the stability of the connection is not affected. There are no hindrances on the road and also in transportation.

Both the earbuds have three microphones for the noise canceling and talking. When making calls, they work together: the foot microphones pick up the sound and the rest record background noise. The built-in processor further suppresses the background and improves speech comprehension.

Like most wireless earbuds with microphone, the PowerBuds Pro supports touch control but is implemented natively. Playback controls are traditionally associated with external touches: one-tap pauses and resumes playback, two – the next track is included.

More interesting is controlling the noise reduction. Modes are switched by squeezing the legs with two fingers. You get used to it immediately. And why didn’t other manufacturers come up with such a simple, and convenient gesture?

Features

To use all the features of the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro, you should install the Zepp application. It offers an equalizer and headphone control settings. There are also fitness features and workout modes that use a heart rate monitor.

From the unusual – care of the cervical spine. The Bluetooth wireless earbuds use sensors to detect the position of the head and neck and warn when to stretch or relax. Hearing protection is also available: the device gives recommendations for evaluating its volume while listening to music.

Finally, the wireless Bluetooth earbuds are equipped with an accelerometer, which counts steps and automatically triggers training mode when you start running. The built-in heart rate monitor will come in handy here, however, one should not count on absolute accuracy. But the system can register a strong increase in heart rate and recommends slowing down – an alert will appear in the application.

Sound

Inside the PowerBuds Pro are speakers with composite diaphragms that reproduce the entire audible frequency range. The model supports the SBC and AAC codecs, allowing audio formats up to 320 kbps to be played.

Surprisingly, the engineers did not take the easy route. Typically, sports earbuds kick up the low and high frequencies, leaving the mids buried under waves of bass. Immediately, the tonal balance is pretty much verified.

Voices are brought to the fore, vowels are open, strong, and comprehensible. The good wireless earbuds do well with both male and female sides.

Instruments also do not merge into a common background: guitar and synthesizer sound clear in their place. Even the sharp and rich parts in Aviation’s prog-rock don’t break the headphones into a fuzzy hum. They are especially good at bass guitar – its riffs here are almost tangible.

The bass is deep, yet it knows its place and doesn’t overwhelm the mids. There are no control issues, drum beats retain detail and variability. The same can be said about the higher frequencies – cymbals sound clean and clear, which is generally rare for wireless devices.

Activating noise cancellation emphasizes low frequencies, turning the gadget into a good eardrum massager. However, even then, they do not cross the line beyond which they can be called “boomboxes”. As far as the noise reduction device is concerned, it copes well with the low-frequency hum of transport (like the old metro cars). In other cases, passive isolation is sufficient.

Battery life

A 68 mAh battery is installed inside the earbud. According to the manufacturer, this will be enough for 9 hours of music playback without ANC, and if you turn it on – for 6 hours. The case with a 510 mAh battery is enough to do a full charge twice.

During the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro review, the device survived six days of heavy use powered by the case. At the same time, the listening volume was 50%, noise cancellation worked from time to time, and calls were made in headset mode. It takes just over 2 hours to recharge the case with headphones.

Final line

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro will appeal not only to training enthusiasts. The best noise cancelling wireless earbuds has a thoughtful design, Google Fast Pair technology for a fast connection to Android devices, interesting functions for a healthy lifestyle, and a battery with a capacity that provides a long operating time. The main feature is the high-quality sound. So the good wireless earbuds are worth considering, even if you don’t need the built-in heart rate monitor. Sound quality, as impressive as the specifications would suggest, is definitely good enough to justify the price. This is among the better-sounding true wireless headsets you can buy for $149.99 via Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk websites.

While we do recommend the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro for anyone focused on music listening or sports things, it might be worth considering the Beats Studio Buds (REVIEW), which has the same price point and has active noise cancellation as well as app support.
