Alesis introduces three new Q-series USB MIDI Keyboard Controller models at NAMM 2021. In addition to the Q49 MKII and the Q88 MKII MIDI Controllers, the series includes the new Qmini for the first time, a portable keyboard controller with 32 mini buttons.

The MIDI Keyboards of the Alesis Q series are inexpensive controllers that concentrate on the essential functions: keyboard, some controllers, and uncomplicated operation without lengthy setup. This also applies to the new generation now presented. However, Alesis has given the series some new functions to make the keyboards fit for modern demands.
Alesis Q49 MKII and Q88 MKII
The Q49 MKII and Q88 MKII MIDI Keyboard MIDI Controllers with 49 or 88 lightly weighted buttons each have wheels for pitch bend and modulation, buttons for octave switching, an assignable fader for volume or other controller data, and a connection for a sustain pedal. The connection to the computer is made via the USB port, which also provides power. The Alesis keyboards can also be used with iOS devices via a separately available Lightning-to-USB adapter from Apple.

The Q88 MKII also offers a MIDI output in 5-pin DIN format so that the keyboard can be used with an optionally available power supply unit to control MIDI sound generators without a computer. The connection for an expression pedal is also reserved for the model with 88 keys.
As an innovation compared to the previous models, Alesis has given both keyboards a few transport buttons and a cursor cross for DAW control. So you can now operate the most important functions of your software directly from the keyboard.
Alesis Qmini
The series is rounded off by the new Qmini. The compact keyboard controller offers 32 velocity-sensitive mini keys. The functions of pitch bend, modulation, and sustain are handled by buttons. There are also octave buttons and assignable volume control. This keyboard can also be used with Mac or Windows computers and iOS devices.

Anyone who knows the Keystation Mini 32 from the sister brand M-Audio should experience a déjà-vu when looking at the Qmini. So in the future, you will have the choice of whether Alesis or M-Audio should be on the keyboard.
Prices and availability
