The Predator Line: Gameplay Is Key

The Predator series has been around 10 years now and has been the brand name for gaming laptops, monitors, and desktops. The Predator X34 GS Acer gaming monitor model belongs to the flagship: it has impressive dimensions and excellent performance. Thanks to the IPS panel, the widescreen monitor is suitable not only for games, but also for working with graphics, and higher Hz and faster response times contribute to comfort in most dynamic action games.

Full immersion

The classic aspect ratio for a monitor is still 16: 9. However, owners of the 21: 9 widescreen monitor rarely go back to traditional devices. Ultimately, cinematic proportions provide a better immersion in content – at first, it may take some time to get used to, but after a couple of days of playing games and watching movies, it seems that this is the only way to be.

More objects fit into the frame, and the picture only benefits from it. There is an advantage in work scenarios: If you are not generous with two displays simultaneously or there is not enough space on the table, this widescreen will help. More windows can be placed on the screen, and when working with Photoshop or video editing software, the toolbar and timeline scale are easier to operate.

The IPS We Deserve

Gamers don’t need to explain the advantages of high hertz: the more frames per second the monitor can display, the easier it is to track all changes on the battlefield and respond to them in a timely manner. In online shooters, every moment is important, so any delay can be fatal. If we add the main parameters of latency – the input interval, the response speed of the panel, and its refresh rate – it turns out that the owner of the “fast” monitor gets a solid head start. However, of course, the straightness of the hands decides in the end.

Fast dodging and reloading of weapons, easy targeting of the enemy at the front sight – the value of a high hertz should not be underestimated.

Acer Predator X34 GS review

The Acer Predator X34 GS supports 144 Hz in standard mode. This is sufficient for all current games with dynamic gameplay. But if you want more, there is an overclocking option in the settings. If you activate it, the monitor goes to 180 Hz and the response speed is 0.5 ms. It is almost impossible to notice the difference from the eye. However, hardcore gamers will surely use the Performance Mode as their primary choice – every millisecond counts.

Of course, there is no need to talk about any trains while running and jumping. True, the most obvious users will notice the characteristic shape on opposite objects – but if you switch to normal mode, they disappear. Everything is natural: everyone is free to choose between picture quality and matrix performance.

Expressive appearance

Designers have tried their best – our Acer Predator X34 GS review unit catches the eye even without backlighting. The design is both aggressive and minimalistic, and the stand’s slim metal legs, despite its grace, proved to be stable. We liked that there was room for a cable clamp at its bottom. And on top, there is a comfortable handle, which simultaneously serves as a design element, and helps to carry a heavy monitor from place to place.

The Predator X34GS has a good set of adjustments, it can be placed on the table as you wish. The height adjustment range is 130 mm, tilt and swivel angles are also available. Fans of attaching the monitor to the wall will appreciate the standard 100 x 100 mm VESA mount. Of course, hanging a curved computer monitor is a controversial idea, but such an opportunity still exists.

It is worth noting the presence of built-in speakers of 7 W each. Not bad for the built-in speaker. Writing something good about the speakers in the monitor usually doesn’t raise a hand – but this time is praiseworthy.

Ports on the Predator X34 GS are in complete order: a pair of DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI connectors, as well as a pair of USB Type-B and USB Type-C. There are four USB Type-A audio jacks and a hub for connecting different devices. Through Type-C you can transfer both data and charge. If you connect multiple signal sources to the Predator X34 GS at once, you can switch between them without rebooting thanks to KVM Switch technology. The monitor will easily become a home center – you can bring your game console, computer, smartphone, and all peripherals to it.

Apart from a set of ports for all occasions, it is worth noting the good packaging of the Acer Predator X34 GS. You don’t have to buy anything: the box already contains HDMI, DisplayPort, USB Type-C and Type-B cables. They also did not forget the headset hook – a trifle, but good.

Good in everything, but with a couple of remarks

All the advantages of the IPS panel are revealed in the most beautiful games. The same Cyberpunk 2077 literally blooms at maximum settings – glare and an abundance of neon look great, with no loss in shadows and color distortions. The resolution is 3440×1440 – the only correct one with such a diagonal, although it requires a solid load on the hardware.

The Predator X34 GS boasts a factory-calibrated Delta E <2 and 98% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. It provides very high-quality color reproduction by the standards of gaming monitors. Saved the galaxy, fought zombies, warmed up a bit – and you can continue working with the graphic package.

The Acer Predator X34 GS has received DisplayHDR 400 certification with maximum headroom of 550 cd / m². The extended dynamic range is working here, the difference in comparison with the standard display is clearly noticeable. The image settings of the monitor are detailed, you can choose between ready-made presets such as Sports, Racing, and Action, or save your settings to memory. The control is realized with a joystick and four buttons on the rear panel, a call to the Quick Access menu. FPS fans will love the ability to display multiple crosshair options on the screen. And for those who do a lot of work behind it, eye protection options will come in handy – Flicker-Less, Ultra-Low Blue Light, and Low Dimming. Despite the wealth of features in the Predator X34 GS, it doesn’t take long for them to learn, everything is at your fingertips.

Disadvantages are difficult to find in this Acer Predator X34 GS review? but they are still there. Uneven illumination on a dark gray background is not striking when you view the monitor strictly perpendicular, but it is clearly visible in the corners, it is worth moving the point of view. The features of the IPS panel have gone nowhere. Furthermore, we did not find the task of turning off the LED indicator during the operation of the device. But it’s a trifle – the diode is small, directed downward, and doesn’t distract from the gameplay.

Final line

Advanced technologies and high-performance – such bundles cannot be cheap. Therefore, Acer Predator X34 GS also will not fit everyone’s budget as it has a price of $1,299 on Amazon.com, but it is also listed on the Bhphotovideo.com online store for $899 without any availability details as well as on Amazon.co.uk for £999.99.

However, the monitor really inspires respect: it has an attractive design, decent color rendering, an unusually powerful built-in speaker, and a full range of gaming features on its side. Advanced features are realized not only on paper but also in actual use. The Predator gaming model will perfectly complement any level of gaming build. And yes, how did you like our Acer Predator X34 GS review, do not forget to mention it in the comment box below.

If you do not want such a widescreen monitor and want an even more refresh rate, that too at a lower price then you can see our Asus ROG Swift PG259QN Review which draws you from an IPS panel with HDR support and anti-blur technology, in addition to a 360 Hz display under $699.
