The Acer Nitro is the best budget gaming laptop brand for the mid-range segment that is always appreciated by users for its many bright benefits. Design

The Acer Nitro 5 Series is a line of top gaming laptops that is of great interest in the market today, not only because of its easily accessible price but with an attractive configuration in the segment. But we have yet to see a design innovation for over a year, although the company has released several different configurations in the past. And Acer seems to have heard through the hearts of users, releasing a new version of the Acer Nitro 5 (2021) with a much more elegant design style.

In particular, on the back, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 owns deeper pattern lines and more sophisticated cuts. You can easily see that there are two symmetrical gaming lines behind the device, just you can see the strength and charisma of the gaming laptop. And undeniably, the line is powerful, but with a little bit of sophistication and elegance.

In this version of the Acer Nitro 5, the edges are still embossed to create the highlight of the gaming line and use the main color tones of red and black. But unlike previous generations, the red color on this new version is somewhat lighter, but we find this color better than the predominant tone of last year’s models (see REVIEW).

Talking about the grip, we find that this version is lighter and thinner than the previous generation. With the advantage of a shell made of plastic, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 has reduced weight significantly compared to a metal-case laptop, and this material also helps to disperse heat better.

In terms of connectivity, Acer understands that everyone who purchases a gaming laptop spends most of their time playing games. But with such a powerful configuration, we can also use it for many other factors, such as multitasking, graphics, design, …, so the company has integrated several connection ports into the left and right edges. In particular, on the left side, the laptop has a lock port, LAN, 2x USB ports, and 1x 3.5 mm audio jack. Meanwhile, on the right edge, the device has HDMI, USB, and USB Type-C ports. You should be wondering where is the power port? The power port is on his backside.

Keyboard and touchpad

Oh, we forgot to tell you one thing which is one of the most attractive factors in the Acer Nitro 5 Series is its backlight. With the Nitro Sense button on the right side of the keyboard, you can turn on and adjust the backlight and customize it to your liking. We like the continuous color transition, so we chose the Wave feature in Dynamic mode, so the rainbow color version itself will run very effectively from left to right (or vice versa).

By the way, now we will talk about our experience with the keyboard of Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45. Personally, the quality of the keyboard has not changed much compared to previous generation products, and the operating experience is also quite good. Apart from the keyboard with good bounce and responsiveness, the touchpad is also very sleek. However, we mostly use a separate mouse for gaming, so we rarely use the laptop’s touchpad.

Performance

Now we will talk about the internal performance of the Acer Nitro 5 (2021). This is a laptop for gaming, and what’s the attractive performance inside? Let us take a quick look at the hardware parameters of the device:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H
  • RAM: 8 GB DDR4 (2 slots)
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD and memory expansion support
  • GPU: GTX 1650 4 GB discrete graphics

There are a lot of factors that we want to talk about in the performance section. To make it easier for you to imagine, we immediately experienced the League of Legends game. With the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU, we confidently push the graphics too high to experience. The results showed that the age of FPS was 85–93 when we played the game along with screen recording. Without recording, FPS would be from 112–140 FPS (very high graphics) and FPS 177–193 (high graphics).

A strong CPU is not enough because, for stable FPS and smooth frames, Acer has equipped the device with a GTX 1650 discrete graphics card and screen refresh rates of up to 144 Hz. A harmonious combination of screens, CPUs, GPUs, in every element has shown that the company pays attention to the smallest details to provide a stable overall experience.

And with such powerful performance, how do we miss the opportunity to experience and use graphics on the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45. The laptop handled Photoshop, Lightroom, or Premier applications in a big way and we can quickly edit images and videos to keep up with work deadlines. Even laptop allow us to open many heavy tasks at the same time and use them for several hours in a steady state.

They are our practical experience, and to give you a better overview, we used Geekbench 5 to measure the performance of the CPU and the laptop. The results are as follows:

  • Single-core 1,091 points, multi-core 3,779 points.
  • The performance reached 38,873 points.

Besides, we used Crystal Diskmark to measure the read and write speed of the 512 GB SSD hard drive. The results we obtained are:

  • Read speed: 2,472 MB/s.
  • Write speed: 1,701 MB/s.

Heatsink

One of the factors affecting the performance of Acer Nitro 5 is heat dissipation. So you would have started guessing whether this laptop’s heat sink is effective or not? Personally, while using the device for the past week, we found that the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 provides much better heat dissipation and does not overheat during the experience.

In particular, we used AIDA64 to measure the laptop’s heat dissipation, the CPU temperature was around 47 ° C when using Chrome and Photoshop. If we play League of Legends and also do graphics work, the temperature will rise to 74 degrees Celsius. We appreciate three things about the heat sink: First, the location of the heat sink, the experience of using it, and the ability to control the heat.

Acer has become very fragile by equipping the Nitro 5 (2021) with four heat slots and with the help of the CPU, the GPU operates at a higher performance for a longer period of time.

Second, when the temperature of the laptop becomes hot, we can try to touch the armrest. Unexpectedly, palm rest is not heated and does not affect daily use.

Finally, you can perform internal heat sinks to help keep the CPU and GPU cool. Nitro Sense is probably also familiar when it can be activated with a physical button and allows the user to adjust the cooling fan appropriately. This not only helps you control the temperature but also gives you peace of mind regarding the longevity of the device when used for a long time.

Display

For the screen, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 owns a 15.6-inch screen with Full HD resolution, which brings a clear picture and a good experience in the price range. At the same time, Acer also finely adapts the edges around the screen to enhance both work and entertainment experiences.

One of the points we cannot ignore is that the Acer Nitro 5 (2021) has a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, which as we just mentioned above provides a seamless gaming experience. Thanks to its high refresh rate and high touch sampling rates, it delivers smooth frames while playing games and watching movies.

And finally, the laptop is equipped with an IPS LCD panel for wide viewing angles and high brightness, which is suitable for you or working outside. In this price range, we cannot demand a beautiful and vivid AMOLED panel.

Battery

The last part we talk about in this Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 review is battery life. When using BatteryMon software, we have measured the battery life of the device to reach more than 3 hours (measured in about 45 minutes).

And to measure the above results, we played League of Legends, opened the AIDA 64 app to measure temperature, and used around 4-5 Chrome tabs to listen to music and work. Personally, we think these results have been very good as the Acer Nitro 5 (2021) is a gaming laptop that uses the charger to switch to display mode and focuses on performance over battery life.

Final line

And this is our Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 review and experience. We personally appreciate it when this product has improved in appearance, performance and also has a very low price around £999.99 on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com websites.

However, the laptop still has some weaknesses but is not very important as it does not affect the user experience. How do you see this Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 review? Leave your comments below and let us know.
