A True competitor for AirPods? Google Pixel Buds 2 is Finally On Sale

More than half a year after the original presentation, Google Pixel Buds 2 is finally available in US. The new Google Buds offer some exciting features that could seriously compete with the Apple AirPods.

Google Pixel Buds 2

Google has already published the Pixel Buds app in the Play Store and has received a lot of criticism from users, since it appears to have been automatically installed on some Android smartphones, regardless of whether you own Pixel Buds or not.

Google has now confirmed that the Google Earbuds that were announced last October will finally come onto the market. In order to compete with the Apple AirPods Pro (Review), Google offers some interesting features, such as Fast Pair, to be able to automatically pair the Pixel Buds 2 with its Android smartphone. There is no real active noise cancelling, but “Adaptive Sound” should at least temporarily increase the volume of the playback when loud ambient noise is registered.

And of course, there is a fully integrated Google Assistant, which can answer any questions with “Hey Google” or play music as desired. It is also exciting that the Pixel Buds should be able to translate conversations in real-time thanks to Google Translate. With “Find My Device”, a sound can be played from the smartphone over the in-ears, so that it is easier to find, at least when you are nearby.

These are the company’s first truly wireless earbuds. At the heart of the Google Buds are 12-mm dynamic drivers, the battery is declared equal to 5 hours for the earbuds itself and 24 hours in total, given the case. There is support for fast and wireless charging, there is protection against moisture (IPX4), and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Price and Availability

Google Pixel Buds 2 has been priced at $179 and it is now available to buy via the Bhphotovideo.com online store. It will be available in Clearly White, Oh So Orange, Almost Black, and Quite Mint colors. More precisely, this is the color of the outer part of the earpiece. The inner part will always be black, and the charging case will always be white.
