A classic has come to Life again – Avantone Pro Kick Drum Microphone

Avantone Pro announces the availability of Kick – a so-called Sub-Kick drum microphone that brings a well-known classic back to life.

Avantone microphone

Using a speaker as a sub-frequency recording microphone is nothing new – after all, the Beatles used this technique in May 1966 for their “paperback writer”. The Kick brings the boom from your instruments out to the forefront, making large-sounding sources sound massive. This works with a sub-frequency microphone that utilizes a low-frequency driver based on a classic design from the 1980s.

Avantone Pro’s AV-10 MLF low frequency driver, used in the CLA-10 replica of a legendary monitor and compatible with the Japanese original, is also at the heart of Kick.

The striking 18 cm cone of the AV-10 MLF acts as a microphone element. The microphone itself is a dynamic version with a movable coil and a frequency response from 50 Hz to 2 kHz, an output impedance of 6.3 Ω, and an XLR connector. All components are housed in a birch plywood shell with a 10-inch mesh skin.

The Kick utilizes a real wooden drum shell, so mounting it on a standard mic stand just won’t do. That’s why Avantone Pro included a stage-ready, double-braced drum stand. Whether you’re in the studio or on the road, the Kick is ready to deliver!
