7Artisans Photoelectric Technology has unveiled the 85mm f1.8 AF lens, one of the most affordable 85mm lenses for Sony mirrorless cameras. It’s compact and lightweight, and the manufacturer promises good sharpness, beautiful bokeh, and fast autofocus.
The optical design features 10 elements arranged in seven groups, including four special elements: two extra-low dispersion elements and two with a high refractive index. 7Artisans ensures high resolution with effective control of optical aberrations.
The 11-blade aperture provides beautiful circular highlights. The minimum shooting distance is 80 cm, which allows you to take close-up portraits. The lens supports focusing on faces and eyes.
The lens features two control rings: a wide one for focusing and a narrower one, closer to the bayonet mount, for adjusting the aperture. Moreover, the external design of the 7Artisans 85mm F1.8 is quite strict, incorporating elements of minimalism. Additionally, on the side of the lens body, there is a switch for selecting the focus mode: automatic or manual.
The 7Artisans 85mm F1.8 AF features a reliable metal body, along with a functional Fn button and a USB port on the bayonet side for easy firmware updates. Additionally, the lens includes a 62 mm thread for attaching a front filter. Moreover, it’s compact, measuring just 96 mm in length, and lightweight at only 438 g.

In contrast, the Sony FE 85mm F1.8, which is considered a “native” option, is nearly twice the price at $550.
The 7Artisans AF 85mm F1.8 also has a robust metal body. It also houses the Fn function button and a USB port on the bayonet side for firmware updates.
