A year ago, Shenzhen 7Artisans Photoelectric Technology released the 7Artisans AF 50mm f1.8 autofocus lens for full-frame Sony cameras and later for Nikon Z. Now, like the first two options, this 50mm lens for street photography is also available for L-mount cameras (Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma) at a nice price—less than $230.

Although the optical design remains the same, it still features 11 elements in 9 groups. Notably, these include five special lenses—1 ED, 2 aspherical, and 2 HR—along with a multilayer coating. As a result, the manufacturer claims this design ‘ensures superior sharpness and contrast across the entire frame.’
A fast, precise, and quiet STM motor drives the 7Artisans AF 50mm F1.8 L’s autofocus. Face and eye detection are supported.
While the 50mm lens is often considered a go-to for its versatility across multiple genres, those exploring wide angle street photography may find it a compelling complement. Its bright aperture easily handles low-light scenes, and the shallow depth of field creates a smooth, natural bokeh that adds depth to everyday urban moments.
To begin with, there are focus and aperture control rings, along with a switch that allows users to toggle between automatic and manual focus modes. Additionally, a USB Type-C connector is provided on the bayonet side. Thanks to its aluminum alloy body, the device remains relatively compact and light, measuring 104 mm in length and weighing 421 grams.
