7Artisans 35mm F1.4 III Lens Now Available for Nikon Z, Sony E, Leica L, and Canon RF

Chinese manufacturer 7Artisans has released a third-generation wide-angle lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras: 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 III. The body is made entirely of metal and has compact dimensions and two control rings: focus and aperture. The lens elements have a multi-layer coating to neutralize negative optical effects.

The 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 III features a minimalist, no-frills design. Weighing just 274 grams, this compact lens supports manual focus only.

It is available for Sony E, Nikon Z, L-mount, and Canon RF bayonet mount cameras. The lens is designed for full-frame cameras but can also be used with APS-C format cameras, in which case the focal length will be 52mm (full-frame equivalent).

The optical design of the new lens consists of 7 elements in 5 groups (see image below). The composition uses one element with a high refractive index, as well as one lens with extremely low dispersion:

The minimum focusing distance is 0.3 meters, as stated in the manufacturer’s promotional materials—available aperture range: F/1.4-F/16.

The manufacturer separately mentions the multilayer coating of the front element of the 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 Mark III lens. It improves the light transmission of the lens, eliminates the vignetting effect, and increases sharpness.

The new 7Artisans lens features a 10-blade aperture and offers a 42-degree field of view. It supports a 52 mm filter mount.

The design allows for click-to-open aperture control (for photos) and click-free aperture control (for video recording). The manufacturer emphasizes that the new 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 III lens is equally suitable for photographers and video content creators.
