MSI Raider GE78 HX with a 16:10 240 Hz screen and Raptor Lake HX processors

The Raider HE78 HX is MSI’s all-new flagship 240Hz gaming laptop. It is equipped with an Intel Core i9-13980HX, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, a QHD+ display, 64 GB of 5,200% DDR RAM and a 99.9 Wh battery.

Last year, MSI unveiled the MSI Raider GE77 with high-end Alder Lake HX processors. Its successor, the Raider GE78 HX, is set to continue that legacy with cutting-edge hardware from Nvidia and Intel. This time the upgrades are more incremental, and MSI takes the trouble to list them in detail. Like its predecessors, the MSI Raider GE78 HX won’t come cheap, with its base variant starting at $2,999.

The name of the Raider GE78 HX reveals a bit about the choice of its processor. It features Intel’s all-new and more powerful Core i9-13980HX processor. For the GPU, one can choose between an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080. MSI’s Cooler Boost 5 technology, combined with a dual heat pipe design, should help keep temperatures in check.

Those looking for a mini LED/OLED display will have to look to other OEMs, as MSI is sticking with a 17.3-inch QHD+ (2560 x 1600) 16:10 240Hz IPS LCD for the Raider GE78 HX. A 165Hz FHD+ variant of the same panel is also available. MSI has also integrated an infrared webcam, with a privacy shutter. RGB stripes are arranged on the back of the 240Hz gaming laptop and along the edges to complete its gamer aesthetic. As expected, per-key RGB illumination is also included

The MSI Raider GE78 HX supports up to 64GB of DDR5 5200 memory and 2TB of solid-state storage. I/O options include one Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, an Ethernet jack, a micro SD card reader, and an audio jack 3.5mm. The 240Hz gaming laptop has six speakers tuned by Dynaudio and supports Wi-Fi 6E. Like most gaming laptops, it comes with a 99.9 Wh battery and a powerful 330 Watt charger.
