Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon and Nikon Cameras goes for Pre-order

Last month, Zeiss has officially announced Otus 28mm f/1.4 Lens for Full Frame Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras. A newest member of the Otus line and also have the highest prices in the premium lens segment. The lens has two versions for Canon DSLR and Nikon DSLR, the retail price of $ 4,490, and goes on for pre-order on BHphotovideo with the expected shipping in February 2016. With cost of $4990, these lenses developed to meet the high demands of professional photographers.

With a 28mm focal length to f/1.4 aperture, this new Otus lens specifically apt for landscape photography and can be used in versatile shooting. Employing a Distagon optical concept, Zeiss called them a “World-class wide-angle” lens. Besides Otus 85mm f/1.4 was dedicated to portraits, Otus 55mm f/1.4 was specialized in street photography, now Otus family has added a specialized lens for landscape photography.

The Otus 28mm f/1.4 lens has a sophisticated optical system and luxurious characteristics of the Otus is housed within an all-metal body. The lens with an inset dial window, and bright, high-visibility yellow depth of field and distance scale markings. It has a manual focus design that accentuated by a rubberized focusing ring. The lens size is quite large with a filter diameter of up to 77mm. Especially designed for the Nikon F and Canon EF mounts.

Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 ZF.2 and Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 ZE Lenses come equipped with 16 elements in 13 groups optical structures with a basis of the optical design is a Distagon. One of the lens elements has an aspheric optical surface and one element is aspheric on both sides. Eight other lens elements are made of special glass with longitudinal chromatic aberrations.

The wide-angle focal length pairs with the bright f/1.4 maximum aperture to suit working in broad variety of lighting conditions. This lens also has floating elements design which allows for unrivalled imaging performance along the entire focusing range, from 0.3 m to infinity. Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.

With high image contrast all the way into the edges of the image – already at an open aperture of f/1.4 – the Otus 1.4/28 demonstrates its optical brilliance. At all distances it offers consistent performance, highly detailed images without any bothersome artifacts, and a neutral bokeh in the background. All these features make it a must have lens in the backpack of a professional photographer.
