The smartphone has been launched in two variants – Xiaomi Redmi 5A price in India is Rs. 5,999 – approximately $93 for 2GB RAM + 16GB storage version and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant priced at Rs. 6,999 – approximately $109. However, the first 5 million units of the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage will be available with a Rs. 1,000 discount, bringing the price down to Rs. 4,999 – approximately $78 making it the cheapest Xiaomi smartphone in India.

The device will be available via Amazon India, and will go on sale via Flipkart and Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores on December 7 at 12pm. After that, the handsets will be available via offline stores as well. The device will be available in Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold color options.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a 5.0-inch IPS display with HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution that is rated a pixel density of 296ppi, 1000: 1 contrast ratio, and 72% (typ) / 68% (min) color gamut. It has a metal-like matte texture which the company claims is much lighter than the metal. The company is also highlighting the lightweight body of the Redmi 5A with 137 grams. The device also highlighted by rounded corners for comfortable grip similar to previous Redmi smartphones.

The Redmi 5A is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor which supported by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset paired with 500MHz Adreno 308 GPU and 2GB / 3GB of RAM. It packs a 16GB / 32GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded via microSD card up to 128GB.

On the camera front, the Redmi 5A flaunts a 13-megapixel primary autofocus camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. For selfie, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and wide-angle lens to capture better self-portraits and quality video calling. The device doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor, similar to the predecessor.

The handset runs on Android 7.1 Nougat -based on MIUI 9 out of the box. It packs a 3000mAh battery with 5V/1A charging, rated to deliver up to 8 days of standby time, and 7 hours of video playback.
