Xiaomi Redmi 4X Review

Redmi is a budget smartphone lineup that designed for customers who want a moderate performance but does not cost too much. The device has long battery life, good design and many other features like an infrared sensor or dual space and more. We will find out more about it in our Xiaomi Redmi 4x review below.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Review

Design

The Redmi 4X is made from metal, in both the metal frame as well as the rear panel. This lightweight metal frame makes the Redmi 4X much stronger than most of the polycarbonate rivals in the same price segment. It sports an all-metal body, and packs a rear fingerprint sensor, which is a bit of a surprise to us with its refined quality at this price range.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Design

Redmi 4X on the hand give us a positive vibe, it does not feel cheap like other plastic bodied cell phones. The device follows the design language of previous Redmi phones, and a relatively moderate 5-inch screen, the Redmi 4X is compact and therefore easy to use with just one hand. The power button and volume rocker are easily accessible on the right side, while the hybrid SIM slot is on the left. The charging port and speaker dots on the bottom, and there’s a 3.5mm audio jack and infrared emitter on the top.

The device has slightly curved edges, which is more rounded and fits better in a palm, in our experience. The rear panel of this phone has a matte finish and offers a slightly better grip. At roughly 150 grams, the Redmi 4X is heavier than the Redmi 4A and Redmi 3S which weighs 132 and 144 grams, respectively. It was launched in three colors – Cherry Pink, Champagne Gold, and Matte Black, we have a Matte Black color variant for Xiaomi Redmi 4X review.

Display

The Redmi 4X has a 5-inch HD display. This screen is a bit adequate, the colors are slightly lighter and can be used under direct sunlight at high brightness. It offers a Reading mode, which makes colors easier on the eyes, and also allows color temperature adjustment via Settings.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Display

The Redmi 4X’s screen is not up to the mark, but at this price range, you can not ask for more. Just the first impression with the all-metal body was too good, but now time to back to reality with the right price range, was little disappointed.

Performance and Battery

In terms of performance, Redmi 4X is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. This chip is still manufactured on 28nm process. The smartphone reached around 43,500 points on Antutu and 687 single-core and 2032 multi-core GeekBench points.

It comes in two variants, 2GG RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. We have 3GB RAM with the 32GB storage version. It has a hybrid dual-SIM slot can hold one Micro-SIM and either a Nano-SIM or a microSD card up to 128GB.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Features

With a 5-inch HD display, SnapDragon 435 SoC and a non-removable 4100mAh battery, Redmi 4X can be used for two days, according to the manufacturer. We tried it for a whole day, without 3G or 4G but continuously on WiFi. When you continuously play high-end games, the juice of the battery will drain much faster.

Camera

The main camera of the Redmi 4X is 13-megapixel while the secondary is 5-megapixel. Fast test, the camera also stops at a good price range, color is not as light as the screen (transfer photos to your computer to see actual quality), the details are just enough. In general, Xiaomi ‘s camera interface is not as strong as high or medium-end phones, so you can install other third-party apps for better camera experience.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Camera Sample

Photos taken by Redmi 4X’s rear camera comes out with decent colors in bright environments, but it will struggle in dark area. Some images are well balanced, but some are not. You should enable HDR because HDR image is very good, quite natural.

Software

In terms of software, Redmi 4X is still running Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with the company’s own MIUI 8, but maybe it will soon be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat in the near future. Xiaomi still maintains infrared sensors that control household devices. In addition, they added Second Space and Dual Apps feature in this budget device.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X Performance

With Second Space, you almost use two different phones at the same time with two separate account and password systems. The transition between the two accounts is also very smooth and almost zero lag. You can also operate both accounts using one touch fingerprint sensor which is even faster. While the Dual Apps feature which allows users to create and sign into two separate instances of any app such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and much more on the same device.

The Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 also comes with many new features including to capture full scrolling screenshots, a Child Mode; Lite Mode; Do not disturb; Mi Mover; App lock; Quick Ball button which provides quick shortcuts; One-Handed Mode; MIUI’s Theme store which provides free themes, wallpaper and more.

Final line

Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi 4X is a good and decent smartphone. If you are looking for the all-metal smartphone with nice design, long battery, Android with MIUI interface which is updated continuously than Redmi 4X should be an interesting device for you. And if you are allergic of the Chinese phones or want a higher resolution screen, than maybe we still have many other good options in the market.
