Sony Xperia XZ2 and XA2 Now Support Seamless Updates

Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XA2 smartphones are now part of the Seamless Update support. A very special feature was first introduced with the first generation Google Pixels devices that allows the operating system to apply updates in the background.

Please note that Seamless Update, or updates without interruptions, need two system partitions to work. As soon as the manufacturer starts the release a new software update, the download and installation takes place automatically on the inactive partition, so that the user does not have to interrupt the regular use of the smartphone.

Once the update is installed on the idle partition, the phone will reboot and switch to the partition with the newly updated firmware, with minimal downtime and with the guarantee that if something goes wrong in the process, the phone will always be able to work properly by starting the partition not updated.
