Sony has officially announced the release date of the new update that will bring Dolby Vision on some of its TVs introduced in 2017. The new firmware will be distributed starting from the end of January 2018, with a progressive release that will be completed by the end of February.
The supported models are the same as those previously confirmed. So let’s talk about TVs equipped with the 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor. Dolby Vision support should include all available sources, streaming (like Netflix) and also Ultra HD Blu-ray.
The Sony TVs that will be updated to the Dolby Vision are A1 Series OLEDs, the XE93 and XE94 Series LCDs and the ZD9 Series LCDs. We remind you that Dolby Vision is a format for managing videos in HDR. The difference compared to HDR10, the basic format is the use of dynamic metadata, information that allows you to optimize the video performance by intervening frame by frame.
