Performance to those of professional monitors used in production studies.

Sony AG9 is powered by the X1 Ultimate processor, the highest expression of the electronics designed by Sony. The functions related to this component are numerous. The “object-based” Super Resolution algorithm analyzes the image in each scene to increase the level of detail in every single object (details identified by the video processor). The same principle is also applied for the “object-based” HDR remastering. The Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR is instead able to recreate softer, smoother and more precise transitions between shades of color.

The Pixel Contrast Booster, a pixel control system capable of increasing the color volume, is taken from the AF9 series. The chromatic components reproduce with greater precision even in high-brightness scenes. The sounds are generated through the Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology, here with two actuators located behind the screen and a double subwoofer. The Sound-from-Picture Reality technology optimizes the sound so that it matches the images. Like AF9 OLED, it is possible to connect the TV to a multi-channel system and to use Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology to replace the central channel. Sony AG9 can also play tracks in Dolby Atmos.

HDR compatibility embraces the HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision formats. The AG9s are also equipped with the calibration mode for Netflix and are IMAX Enhanced certified (as well as the Denon and Marantz products). The first IMAX titles, including “Venom”, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, will be available via Rakuten TV online services during 2019.

In terms of design, AG9s are more like AF8 than AF9. In fact, there is a small central base that protrudes on the front side and a limited thickness on the back. Wall mounting is facilitated by the SU-WL8502 bracket. With this accessory, you can minimize the distance from the wall. The bracket is provided with a rotating structure that allows you to adjust the position of the TV according to your preferences.

The Android TV operating system is based on the Oreo version with Google Assistant and compatibility with AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit complete the endowment. The microphone placed on the televisions allows you to freely interact through your voice, while a second microphone is also placed in the remote control. We also take for granted the compatibility with CalMAN software for automatic calibration functions.

The Sony AG8 series is instead composed of a 55″ and a 65″ options. The video processor is the 4K HDR X1 Extreme, a less performing version that still guarantees to process such as “object-based” HDR, 4K HDR Super Bit Mapping and signal processing via the double database. The audio section is less advanced: the Acoustic Surface Audio technology is accompanied by the Sound-from-Picture Reality. Furthermore, all the exclusive functions of the Master Series are missing, such as the calibration mode for Netflix and automatic calibration.

On the other hand, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced certification and all the functions connected to Android TV are always present. The Soby AG8 series is provided with a supportable to rotate 180° so as to lift up to easily position a soundbar. Prices and availability will be announced soon.
