Sony A7R III With 42.4MP Exmor R Sensor, Improved Focus, HDR, USB-C Announced

Sony has officially announced the upgraded A7R III camera for its predecessor. This is a high-end mirrorless camera has a 42.4-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor that improves image processing speed with the next-generation BIONZ X processing engine. A new HLG is available on the Sony A7R III that supports an Instant HDR workflow, allowing HDR (HLG) compatible TV’s to playback beautiful, true-to-life 4K HDR imagery.

The design of the A7R III is similar to the A7R II, but the control system resembles that of the A9. It is easy to see that the joystick button is placed next to the wheel controller. New multi-selector joystick that provides a fast, efficient way to shift focus points, as well as an ‘AF ON’ button to activate autofocus when shooting stills or movies.

In terms of hardware, Sony uses the next-generation BIONZ X processor which is 1.8 times faster than the A7R II and adds front-end LSI to increase read / write capacity. These powerful components work together to allow the camera to shoot at faster speeds while also enabling its impressive ISO range of 100 – 32000 (expandable to ISO 50 – 102400 for still images) and 15-stop dynamic range at low sensitivity settings.

Sony A7R III full-frame mirrorless camera allows us to shoot full 42.4MP stills at up to 10fps with continuous, accurate AF/AE tracking for up to 76 JPEG / RAW images or 28 uncompressed RAW images.

The camera’s focus system still has 399 focus points but has been increased to 425 focus points to help focus more accurately. An increase of 400 points compared to the A7R II. The LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1.44M dots and also supports touch to focus.

In terms of recording, the camera supports 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) 24fps / 30fps but added Hybrid Log-Gamma to create HDR content for playback on compatible devices.

Sony also offers a number of useful features from the A9 series as it comes with two memory card slots, including a standard UHS-II SD slot for up to 300 MBytes sec read/write speed. Standard Z battery (like A9) for more usage time. In addition to supporting 1Gb of LAN port and FTP protocol, the company has also introduced the 3.1Gb / 5Gbps USB-C interface that supports high-speed data transfer and battery charging.

The Sony A7R III will be available in November 2017 at a price of $3,200, equivalent to the launch price of the A7R II. This is Sony’s flagship camera in the A7 series because it contains a lot of technology, high-power capabilities, and user-friendly interface.
