With the new Sol Republic Amps Air+, fans of truly wireless earbuds now have another option in the ever-growing flood of True Wireless Active Noise Cancelling earplugs. As befits 2020, the Air+ also comes with active noise cancellation and USB-C.
Since the Apple AirPods Pro (Review) came onto the market last autumn, a model with active noise suppression has been part of the mandatory program of every TWS manufacturer. The Sol Republic is no exception – while the older Amps Air 2.0 (priced at $49.99 on Amazon) still do without the feature, the Air+ finally also offer an Active Noise Cancellation.
The battery life is even better with six hours when background noise cancellation is activated than with the Apple model, together with the charging case and without ANC it is even 24 hours. The charging case is now slimmer and therefore even more suitable for your pocket, but you have to do without the predecessor’s built-in 2200mAh power bank. In the new model, charging is via USB-C, whereby a 15-minute charging process should suffice for up to two hours of music playback.
The new Noise Cancelling earplugs are protected against sweat and certified according to IPX4. The comfort is said to have been further improved so that the earphones can be worn all day long. Thanks to a sensor, simple functions can be controlled by simply tapping the earbuds, for example, to pause music playback, skip to the next track or to deactivate noise suppression.
It has an ergonomic design that contributes to a more secure fit for additional noise suppression support while lending itself to be better suited for an active lifestyle. With both active noise cancellation and ambient mode features, the sound experience is customizable to allow for environmental awareness when desired – offering total wireless freedom.
