In the “Art” product line, Sigma uses the latest technologies in the field of optical design as well as the most modern production technologies in the Japanese plant in Aizu. The 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is equipped with the latest glass with a high refractive index, five SLD glass elements (Special Low Dispersion) and aspherical elements for the highest correction of aberrations. Special emphasis was placed on the correction of longitudinal color errors, whereby the color fringes are eliminated – even with a max aperture of f/1.4. The f1.4 aperture ensures an impressive bokeh, which brings out the blur effect in an impressive way.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art specially developed for mirrorless cameras and weighs just 630g with a filter diameter of 77mm and a housing length of 94.1mm. Nevertheless, the case appears light and compact, which is appreciated in practice. Significant weight savings could also be achieved through modern materials such as aluminum and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite). The AF system uses a stepper motor that is optimized for both phase AF and contrast AF.

Despite its small size, this compact Sony e mount lenses has extensive new functions. This includes the new aperture ring lock switch, which prevents the inadvertent operation of the aperture ring during recording. The focus mode switch on the lens housing and the AFL button, to which functions selected on the camera side can be assigned, also support the photographer when taking pictures. In addition to the durability due to the dust and splash water protection of the housing, the focus was also on the feel and operation, such as the gentle movements of each individual ring and switch.
