Samsung Cinema Screen is New HDR LED theater display to replace Projectors!!

Samsung Electronics has announced the new Cinema Screen, a very interesting novelty with regard to the cinema. What is it? The idea of Samsung is to replace the traditional film projector with a display with direct-lit LED technology that’s delivers HDR and 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) resolution content. The first Samsung Cinema Screen will be demonstrations during March 27-30, 2017 at the Cinemark Century Orleans 18 and XD Theatre, located inside The Orleans Hotel & Casino. The premiere will coincide with the neighboring CinemaCon 2017 conference in Las Vegas.

The Samsung Cinema Screen dimensions base of 10.36 meters (however, it seems to have a modular structure to adapt to various types of installation) and according to Samsung the screen also exceeds the highly-esteemed DCI specifications used to ensure a uniform and high level of technical performance, reliability, and quality in digital cinema.

The showcasing on-screen cinema screen media contents at a peak brightness level nearly 10 times higher than the standard for cinema: it speaks specifically of 146 foot-lambert against 14, or about 500 cd/m2 – nit against 48 cd/m2 – nit. Being a display it is also referred to the absence of distortion and a better uniformity. The Korean giant also declares a cinema screen ratio nearly infinity:1 contrast ratio.

However, to get the full cinematic experience is also necessary a sound system of equal value. Samsung Cinema Screen will be matched with an innovative audio solution powered by Harman Professional Solutions’ Cinema Group combined experience of Samsung Audio Lab, so by exploiting recent acquisition.

“As the popularity of advanced at-home entertainment systems and streaming platforms increases, theaters must reposition themselves as a destination for an incomparable viewing experience that consumers simply cannot encounter anywhere else,” said Sang Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics America. “Our new Cinema Screen technology brings a more powerful and high-quality picture to the big screen, creating an environment where viewers feel as if they are part of every scene.”

The Samsung Cinema Screen has recently completed testing at Keio University in Tokyo and is currently submitted to the DCI certification.
