Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon VR820 Standalone VR Headset at IFA 2016

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. at IFA 2016 has unveiled a new standalone VR headset called Snapdragon VR820, fueled by its own powerful Snapdragon 820 processor.  Snapdragon VR820

The Qualcomm Snapdragon VR820 VR headset comes with two AMOLED display with 1440×1440 pixels resolution that supports refresh rate speed up to 70Hz. It can play 360-degree 4K video with HEVC compression and Qualcomm TruPalette  display gamut mapping, color enhancement comprehensive control over colors. Along with Qualcomm EcoPix pixel compression, with variable refresh for extended battery life.

This All in One VR Headset is powered by custom made 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo quad-core CPU for high-performance computing paired with Adreno 530 GPU that is claimed to deliver up to 40 percent higher performance and compute capabilities compared to its predecessor. Additionally, Hexagon 680 DSP for efficiently processing advanced vision, audio, and Qualcomm All-Ways Aware ultra-low power “always-on” sensor technology without impacting CPU processing load.  standalone VR headset

The Snapdragon VR820 VR headset offers Dual Qualcomm Spectra camera ISPs combined with Hexagon DSP for advanced vision features such as 3D reconstruction, eye-tracking, look-through imaging, and hand gestures. Ultra-fast sensing and lowest latency that is currently available, 18 milliseconds.

Even though the pricing of the headset has not been announced by the company, but is expected to launch in Q4 this year.
