After the presentation of the first laptops and 2-in-1 PC based on Snapdragon 835 at the end of 2017 in Hawaii. Qualcomm and Microsoft have worked together to further improve the potential of Windows on the ARM platform. A first generation that we have always considered as “experimental”, on the other hand also the same hardware platform had reached and surpassed its point of greatest interest.
Qualcomm at Computex 2018 announced the Snapdragon 850 Mobile Compute Platform, which is meant to deliver long battery life and constant cellular connectivity. Although it is certainly not a completely new software/hardware association, just think of Windows RT, who was a pioneer, finally seems to have arrived the platform that we were waiting for and that can really support the project.
Without making it too long, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 chip is the most powerful ever made and able to push the octa-core Kryo 385 up to 2.95GHz, with an increase in performance compared to the SD835 of about 30%. A huge power that will allow Windows S to move without problems thanks to a GPU even more powerful: then capture 4K content, support Artificial Intelligence and even improved battery life up to 27%.

As you may have guessed that the SD850 is intended for a specific segment of products and we will hardly see it on smartphones. Unfortunately, at the time of writing the piece we do not have technical information about the TDP or other details, we will update as soon as possible on the news.
Finally, remember that from the Computex 2018 there will certainly be important announcements from Dell, HP, Asus and more with the all in the new SD850.
