Panasonic S1H with 6K Capture, Dual Native ISO: Pre-Order Price, Specifications and Availability

Panasonic has announced full specifications, pricing, and a retail appearance for its flagship Lumix DC-S1H mirrorless camera. Panasonic S1H is the world’s first full-frame digital camera system with interchangeable lenses, allowing you to record 10-bit 4K / C4K HEVC video at 60k / s, according to the manufacturer. However, this mode is only available in the Super 35 crop mode.

When shooting 4K / UHD (up to 30fps), you can record 10-bit 4: 2: 2 from the entire area of the 24-megapixel sensor. The Panasonic S1H is capable of recording Full HD at up to 180 frames per second with a bitrate of 100 Mbps (8: bit LongGOP 4: 2: 0) H.264 / MPEG-4 AV. It should be borne in mind that if you select a frame rate of more than 151 frames / s, there will be a small crop of the image.

Unlike GH5 and GH5S, S1H has a sensor with an aspect ratio of 3:2, not 4:3. S1H has two anamorphic modes: 5.4K 5376 x 3584 (3: 2) and 4K 3328 x 2496 (3: 2). It has two SD card slots that are compatible with UHS-II and Video Speed Class 90 high-speed cards.

Users can choose the recording method: “Relay recording”, “Backup recording” or “Allocation recording”, which enables saving video and photo data in a separate card. The camera can record both on the internal and external recorder at the same time.

The S1H uses a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor (35.6 mm x 23.8 mm) that is capable of capturing 6K resolution video and 6,024 x 4,016 pixels photographs. The camera has an OLPF (optical low pass filter) to suppress moire, while the S1 does not. Processing is carried out using the Venus Engine processor.

Panasonic said the camera is not the same sensor used in the Panasonic S1. Unlike S1, S1H has a dual native ISO. This dual native ISO technology can be switched manually between LOW (ISO 640-5000) and HIGH (ISO 4000-51200).

The camera also has in-body image stabilization that can reduce shake by up to 6.5 stops (according to Panasonic) when using a ‘Dual IS 2’ compatible lens. The S1H uses a contrast autofocus system. The user can select AFS (single focus), AFC (continuous) or MF (manual focus).

Continuous autofocus can be used when shooting video. Autofocus also works when shooting at a high frame rate (sound is also recorded in this mode). There is no RAW record in S1H, however, Panasonic has confirmed that they work with Atomos. This collaboration will allow the transfer of ProRes RAW via HDMI to the Atomos recorder.

Price and Availability

The Panasonic S1H mirrorless camera body will cost $3,997.99 and $5,689.50 for the Filmmaker’s Kit. It can be pre-ordered through Bhphotovideo.com and will be shipped in late September this year.
