Oppo has released the UDP20XEU-54-1127 firmware update for UDP-203EU and UDP-205EU Ultra HD Blu-ray players. The most relevant innovation consists in the update is support for MQA audio files on the Oppo UDP-205EU. The MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) format is designed to carry high-resolution audio signals without burdening the weight of files. The result was achieved through the use of frequencies not audible to the human ear.
Instead of wasting this space with data not useful for listening purposes, it was decided to insert information that would normally be lost during the creation of compressed audio files. The advantages are numerous: it is possible to create audio files in high resolution, with quality at 96kHz / 24 bit, occupying a band equal to 1 Mbps, much lower than the 4-5 Mbps normally required.
Firmware Changelog:
1. Added support for MQA audio files on the UDP-205.
2. Improved compatibility for recently released and upcoming Dolby Vision UHD Blu-ray discs and TV firmware.
3. Improved compatibility for non-standard 4:3 aspect ratio media files.
4. General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.
The firmware can be downloaded directly from the players or on the official website. As always, we suggest to carefully follow all the described steps.
