Finally, OnePlus 6 is official and brings with it several innovations within the OnePlus smartphone lineup. As always the keywords are speed and fluidity and OnePlus 6 aims to offer both thanks to a first-level hardware and software with numerous features.
The main changes certainly reside in the aesthetics, thanks to the Gorilla Glass 5 also on the back and the presence of a white color that will be released a few days after the official launch. But let’s go exploring all the news on OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 Features
Like every year, OnePlus bases its top of the range on the best hardware specifications on the market, then under the body we find a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 10nm SoC, paired with Adreno 630 GPU and 6GB / 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. As for storage, OnePlus re-proposes the classic 64GB / 128GB versions, which also includes the new 256GB version; all storage is based on UFS 2.1 Dual Lane technology, in order to ensure a high read and write speed.
Important news regarding the display. OnePlus brings us a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED panel with FullHD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution, even if in this case we see the transition to the 19:9 ratio due to the presence of a small notch placed on the top of the screen. The Chinese company had already confirmed the presence of this aesthetic element, currently a compromise necessary to make the transition to a totally border-less design.
In order to offer the largest possible area for the use of content, OnePlus 6 adopts the gesture-based navigation system, which makes the buttons on the screen superfluous. Finally, we remind you that the display is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5; the same glass is present on the back of the smartphone.
OnePlus 6 Camera
OnePlus 6 maintains the same approach to photography that has characterized its predecessor – OnePlus 5T, and offers us a very similar rear Dual Camera module consisting of a 16MP primary camera and a 20MP secondary camera. The latter is practically the same that we find on the 5T, or a Sony IMX 376K with 1.00-micron pixels and optics with f/1.7 aperture.
Different speech for the main sensor, which is now a new Sony IMX 519 (1.22-micron pixel) of 1/2.6″ assisted by an optical stabilization system – absent on OnePlus products more than a year. Even in this case, we find optics with f/1.7 aperture. Also unchanged front camera, a 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor, 1.00-micron pixel, equipped with EIS and f/2.0 aperture.
Thanks to the possibilities offered by Snapdragon 845, OnePlus 6 is now able to shoot 4K video at 60fps, while Super Slow Motion videos in FullHD at 240fps and HD at 480fps. Also present the HDR Improved mode and the Portrait mode, both on the rear and front camera, enriched with many special effects to customize the portraits.
OnePlus 6 Design
OnePlus 6 breaks with tradition and has a decidedly different design of its predecessors, thanks to the adoption of a dual glass panel that covers both sides of the smartphone. This allowed OnePlus to create new light effects in each of the three color variants. Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and the limited edition Silk White. First two, a film has been used that guarantees an effect of depth and particular reflections each time the smartphone is moved, while the white variant is enriched with pearl powder that produces a slight shimmering effect.
In terms of design, we point out the repositioning of the Alert Slider, now present on the right side of the smartphone, while the camera module is now arranged with vertical alignment. The fingerprint sensor has also been modified and now no longer offers a circular but ovoid shape. Unfortunately, despite the glass back, OnePlus did not integrate the wireless charging support on OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 Battery and Connectivity
Among the other specifications of OnePlus 6, we point out the presence of a complete connectivity compartment. The LTE modem guarantees support for the Cat 16 in download – up to 1Gbps – and Cat 13 in upload – 150 Mbps – and the Dual SIM technology is present. There are also Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, NFC, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack and a single lower speaker. However, no certification to regard to water and dust resistant, although the device should still have a certain level of protection against these two points.
OnePlus 6 has dimensions of 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.75 mm and a weight of 177 grams. Includes a 3,300mAh battery with Dash Charge fast charge technology that allows you to face an entire day with a brief half-hour charge. The operating system is based on Android 8.1 Oreo with OxygenOS interface and more savvy users can already access Android P in beta, thanks to the new program that also joined OnePlus.
