Design

The MSI GF63 8RD is one of the new trend-setter gaming laptops aimed at slim, lightweight devices. The back of the laptop is designed with metal with beautiful scratches combined with the familiar red dragon logo.

The bottom of the laptop is made entirely of plastic but has a unique asymmetrical design with a slim X-vented heat dissipation gaming.

Body weight is very light, only about 1.8kg, the thickness is only 21.7mm and is designed with the usual 14-inch laptop size. With this slim, lightweight laptop, you can confidently take gaming anywhere.

The left side of the laptop is the heat sink, charging port and USB 3.0. The right side has a LAN port, USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports and two mic jack, gold-plated earphones. Display

The MSI GF63 8RD uses a standard keyboard, which is omitted from the numeric keypad. The keys are bigger and shorter. In return, reasonable key spacing and bouncing keys help users when typing or playing games feel comfortable.

It also has three levels of brightness adjustment for its red keyboard backlight. This backlight is a part of the beautiful decoration and much helps you to work properly in all environmental conditions.

The trackpad of the laptop has a simple design when used for high sensitivity, the ability to touch comfortably. However, for those who suffer from sweat hand should be transferred to the mouse by now the trackpad on the MSI GF63 8RD will not work properly. This is nothing to worry about because most gamers use their own mouse.

Performance

The MSI GF63 8RD gaming laptop we have is powered by the Intel Core i7-8750H CPU, 2.2GHz to 4.1GHz; 8GB of RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti discrete graphics (4GB max-Q); 128GB SSD and 1TB 5400rpm HDD.

We use Geekbench 4 software to evaluate the performance of the laptop and MSI GF63 8RD achieved 83275 points.

Next is the most interesting gaming test on the laptop and we have tested six games with the highest level of graphics set is CS: GO, DotA 2, FarCry Primal, GTA V, League Legend and PUBG. We used a combination of both software to measure FPS is FRAPS and Afterburner so the actual FPS when playing will be reduced a bit.

The MSI GF63 8RD can perfectly handle the heaviest graphics games on the market today, with maximum configuration settings that still play smoothly. If you want higher FPS than you can reduce the configuration to medium to play offline.

Audio and Heatsink

If you use the speakers of the MSI GF63 8RD then you judge that the quality of the bass is slightly low, the beat is not loud and strong. But when using it for gaming, the sound quality can be said to be good and also create surround sound, which gives gamers a better sense of positioning when playing games.

In addition, the sound of the laptop is loud and clear, with high realism from gunshots, footsteps or explosive effects.

As for the heat sink, the MSI GF63 8RD uses a single heat sink. When we used lightweight tasks such as reading newspapers, surfing Facebook, watching videos, the heat dissipation of the laptop almost no emitting noises and the body after about 2 hours of use is still cool as usual.

When used for gaming with high levels of configuration, about 1 hour after the laptop has heated up around 90 degrees and not increase in the next 2 hours of play. The fan of heat dissipation is louder now, but the game sound has ceased to fan noise that makes us feel cool that can be ignored.

Battery

According to the manufacturer, the battery life of the MSI GF63 8RD can be up to 7 hours. But we also feel hard to believe because of the battery configuration is not much higher.

We tested the laptop in terms of maximum screen brightness, using a variety of tasks such as listening to music, typing text, reading newspapers, watching videos and found the device consumes 33% of battery life in an hour. Within 1 hour 50 minutes, the laptop consumes 23%. If calculated, the laptop can be used around 5 and a half hours in the above conditions.

Using the Batterymon software to measure the battery life, we saw the laptop reached up to 4 hours 10 minutes of duration.

If only for normal use as mentioned above, MSI GF63 8RD can stay up to 5 hours. If you want to play high-end games, first of all, we do not advise you to play without a charger, if you try to run without a charger, the battery will end approximately in 2 hours.
