The Moment manufacturer has specialized in camera accessories for the iPhone and other smartphones for years. In addition to cases, backpacks and other practical accessories Moment also produces lenses. The latest addition to this range is the Fisheye 14mm lens, which produces an ultra-wide-angle and even performs better than the wide-angle lens in the iPhone 11 Pro.
The Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max were introduced this year for the first time with an ultra-wide-angle lens. Its focal length is 13mm and thus forms a larger image area than the new Moment 14mm Fish eye lens. However, there is a catch: the integrated lens does not work in the new night mode. Here, the accessory remedy, since it is placed on the wide-angle lens of the iPhone and thus does not affect the functionality.
Moment describes the new fisheye lens as “further than an ultra wide-angle and cheaper than a GoPro”. The company cites a 170-degree field of view for the 14-mm equivalent lens – significantly more than the 120 degrees covered by the wide-angle lenses of most smartphones. The lens is mounted on the covers of the manufacturer. Thus, it is compatible only with a few smartphones, including all iPhone 11 models, all variants of the Galaxy S8, S9 and S10 as well as Galaxy 8, Galaxy 9 and Galaxy 10, or even with the Pixel 3.
In addition, this fisheye lens iPhone has another advantage over the ultra-wide-angle lens. The other lens has a better light intensity and optical image stabilization. Due to the attachment, the field of view is also increased from 120 degrees to 170 degrees, thus catching even more. Together with the Pro Camera app of the manufacturer, the fish eyes effect should be largely corrected. However, an additional Case of Moment (M-Series) is needed to attach the lens to the iPhone.
