HTC Exodus 1 finally shows up in the first real images. TechCrunch was a first to able to touch the blockchain smartphone. There are no big differences when compared to the recent U12 Plus range, except for the back, which is made of transparent glass. The back shows fake chips at the top and the Exodus logo at the bottom. And news on its technical specifications is also limited. The most significant is the secure memory area reserved for cryptocurrency operations.
New HTC blockchain smartphone was supposed to debut during the TechCrunch Shenzhen event, but it did not arrive on time. However, HTC has specified that it is not yet ready to show the interface of the operating system, in particular, Zion – the “micro OS” dedicated to the cryptocurrency management. That’s why the images show the device with off-screen only.
Speaking with Phil Chen, project manager, TechCrunch was able to extract some interesting information. HTC is proceeding with caution with the integration of blockchain technologies in smartphones, but it is safe to assume that in the future we will find it in all the smartphones it produces. HTC Exodus 1 basically serves to test the waters.
HTC also seems intent on granting the licensed technology, similar to what Google does for Pixel design. Chen’s words also suggest, albeit vaguely, that in the future HTC could take a similar path to BlackBerry, focusing on software and patents and abandoning the hardware.
