Two new Gionee smartphones, the Marathon M5 Plus and M5 Enjoy, have been officially launched in China. Priced at CNY 2,499 – approximately $385 USD and CNY 1,999 – approximately $308 USD respectively, both the smartphones can now be ordered in China from the official Gionee e-commerce website and will go on sale starting from December 25, 2015.
The company touted that both the Gionee M5 Plus and M5 Enjoy are packing a long battery life. The M5 Plus features a 5020mAh battery, while the M5 Enjoy packs a smaller 5000mAh battery when compared to the M5 Plus, Gionee claims that both have optimised the battery to reduce the drop in its capacity over time. The company claims that the only 1 hour of charging will offer up to 1 day of usage and also supports reversible charging to charge other devices along with double charging chips that allow users to charge it quickly without overheating.
The Gionee M5 Plus flaunts a 6.0-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels that can translate a pixel density of 368ppi. The screen-to-body ratio is only 77.5 percent and with 2.5D arc glass. The handset is fueled by a 1.3 GHz Octa-core processor can be backed by a 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 chipset along with Mali-T720 GPU. It packs a 3GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage that’s expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus bears a 13-megapixel primary camera with 5P lens and LED flash; front has a 5-megapixel sensor with 84-degree ultra-wide angle lens to capture wide selfies. The rear camera can shoot Full HD (1080p) videos. The handset also features a fingerprint scanner on the home button to unlock the device in just 0.1s and fingerprint identification time of 0.38s.
The Gionee M5 Enjoy, on the other hand, features a bit smaller 5.5-inch IPS display with HD resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with same screen features as M5 Plus. Other specs of the M5 Enjoy same as M5 Plus comes with a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6735 processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage up to 128GB. The smartphone differs in camera with M5 Enjoy comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. There is also a fingerprint sensor located into home button with response time up to 0.5 seconds.

Both the Gionee M5 Plus and Gionee M5 Enjoy devices run on Android 5.1 Lollipop along with Amigo UI 3.1 on top. On the connectivity front, both devices support dual SIM slots, 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, 3.5 mm audio jack and FM Radio options.
