Datacolor SpyderX Photo Kit with Massive Discount of $180

Datacolor has released a color calibration photo tool for photography called the SpyderX Photo Kit. If purchased separately its components will cost $379. Since there is also a hard carrying case in the set, where everything is put together, the set is estimated at $399. However, now in honor of Datacolor 50th Anniversary, the company offers a set with a significant discount for $199.

The photo tool kit includes the SpyderX Elite colorimeter, which sells for $237.82, the Spyder Checkr 24 reference color target, and the SpyderCube fixture, which is a voluminous version of a gray card that makes it easy to determine exposure, black level, and white balance.

The Datacolor photo kit is helpful to color calibration tools for all stages of a shooting and editing workflow. This kit includes the SpyderCUBE, to help achieve accurate exposure and the white balance at exposure; the SpydrCHECKR 24, for gaining consistently accurate colors from shot to shot; and the SpyderX Elite, an advanced colorimeter to ensure your computer’s monitor is color-accurate.

The colorimeter pairs with SpyderX software to provide a range of calibration control, ranging from a one-click, wizard-guided option to an expert console for finely tuning color, brightness, and contrast to match any application. The colorimeter incorporates an ambient light sensor to measure prevailing light conditions, and can automatically re-calibrate your monitor to maintain consistent results.

The SpyderCUBE RAW Calibration Tool (1.5″/3.8 cm square) is a digital color balancing tool that not only allows you to correct the color temperature but also the exposure, brightness, and black point of your images. It is a spectrally neutral three-dimensional tool that’s small enough to fit in your pocket or camera bag and gives you all the features needed to easily adjust your images in post-production. Its multi-sided construction allows special attention to highlights and shadows and contains more features for image control than a gray card or white balance tool.

The SpyderX photo set is part of the Datacolor SpyderX Studio and SpyderX Capture Pro sets, which also combine various calibration photo tools with a discount.

Price and availability

The Datacolor SpyderX Photo Kit is currently listed at an ‘anniversary special’ price of $199 on the Bhphotovideo.com website ‘while supplies last.’ That’s $180 less than if you purchase each piece individually, plus it all comes in a hard carrying case.

Earlier this month, Profoto has unveiled a new series of Profoto OCF II light shaping tools, and pricing starts from $69 only.
