Asus Zenbook Flip S UX370UA Review

Asus Zenbook Flip S UX370UA looks like the perfect everyday Windows Ultrabook. It has a slim and light design, the highlight of the laptop is the touchscreen display and capable of turning 360 degrees. We’re going to take a look Asus Zenbook Flip S UX370UA review today, in the hope that it finally fills a gaping hole in the laptop market.

Asus Zenbook Flip S UX370UA Design

We liked the design and its opening was very smooth. You can easily hold it in one hand and its overall weight is very light, which is only 1kg. The most striking thing about it is the lid created using a process that Asus calls Nano Imprint Lithography. What this means is that the trademark concentric ring pattern was created using an electroplating process to adhere crystals of color to a finely etched surface, with a UV coating on top to give it a super-smooth finish. We worry that the lid will be susceptible to scratches and scuffs, and it is a huge fingerprint magnet as well.

The body is evenly ultra-thin, with a thickness of only 10.9mm. And the unique ErgoLift hinge design allows you to lift the keyboard up when you open the screen with a wide angle and help turn to 360 degrees.

Flipping the lid up, we see that there isn’t much plastic around the screen. The sides are very thin, but there’s still enough space on top to accommodate a webcam, which we actually like. The giant Asus logo below the screen, however, is a bit too distracting for us. We’re extremely happy to see that there’s also the gold printing and accents that make it more luxurious.

The selection of ports on the sides is relatively sparse. We will see a USB Type-C, fingerprint sensor, volume up and down keys on the right. Due to the ultra-thin design, it is understandable to limit the ports. However, Asus also bundled an adapter to transfer 3 ports USB 3.0, HDMI and USB Type-C.

And two more gifts are also included in the bundle: Asus Pen that you can use to draw or to take a note directly on the screen and personal leather case so you can carry your laptop carrying around.

Asus Zenbook Flip S UX370UA Display

In terms of display, this laptop is fairly compact considering that it has a 13.3-inch screen with Full HD resolution and 80% screen to body ratio as well as the NanoEdge display technology. The image displayed on the screen is sharp with a pixel density of 331ppi.

Thanks to TruVivid technology, the brightness of the screen is significantly increased, colors have been always bright and vibrant, a text was crisp and readable, and we had no trouble whatsoever when watching movies, playing games, or just working on documents.

Brightness is adjusted automatically by default, but you can disable this whenever you like with a simple keyboard shortcut. It has a 178-degree viewing angle and uses a Corning Gorilla Glass which is 10 times tougher than conventional glass to give you peace of mind when using it.

In addition, the touch screen also has the ability to identify very well, comes with a convenient Pen to help you improve the performance greatly.

Keyboard, Mouse, Fingerprint Sensor

The first thing we noticed on the keyboard of the Asus ZenBook Flip S UX370UA is that the keys are designed slightly larger than normal and are arranged properly in a small space of a 13-inch laptop.

The keyboard layout is actually quite good, with no major keys missing or cramped. Even the arrow keys aren’t as badly squashed as we’ve seen on most ultra-portables.

The typing feeling on the keyboard is very smooth, the key bounce was also good. The white backlight is hidden behind the beautiful gold LEDs, without any distracting leakage around the keys. It comes with three levels of brightness adjustment that help you work properly in dark conditions.

The trackpad is also large and comfortable, and also designed with a wider area, for quick, accurate feedback, even when your hands are sweaty.

The sideways fingerprint sensor is a little small, but it gives a quick and accurate response, and in particular, it can recognize the owner’s fingerprint when scanning only a very small part of the finger.

Asus ZenBook Flip S UX370UA Performance

The laptop includes Intel Core i7 8550U CPU, 1.80 GHz clock, 8GB RAM, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU and 512GB M2 SSD. We tried using Geekbench 4 software to evaluate the performance of the laptop and it was reached 21697 points.

Asus ZenBook Flip S UX370UA Performance

The working experience of the laptop with the office software like Microsoft Office, Photoshop…all works very smoothly. Reading, surfing, and Facebook with a touchscreen display is also great. We also opened up to more than 30 tabs in Chrome at the same time and the laptop is still not hanging and operate smoothly.

Speakers and Heatsink

There are also four speakers certified by Harman Kardon for high-class in-ear sound quality. We also tried to listen to the music on the laptop to check the bass sound, but it is slightly weak, this can be understandable because the body is too thin so we cannot ask for better bass.

But in return, the mid and treble sounds very clear so you can enjoy your favorite music immersively.

The heatsink works pretty well. Under normal conditions, ie using basic office applications, reading newspapers, Facebook, the laptop will remain cool and the fan running smoothly.

When we use heavy tasks like games or graphics software, the parts on the left side seem to be warm within approximately 1 hour of continuous use, and then the fan heat dissipation starts working with high potential.

Asus ZenBook Flip S UX370UA Battery

As advertised by the manufacturer, the laptop has a battery life of up to 11 hours. We also tested using multi-tasking, listening to music, Facebook, opening multiple Chrome tabs, maximizing screen brightness, and constantly on WiFi. At 8:54 AM the laptop has 77% battery life, then to 9:43 AM, the battery level was 69%.

If calculated, battery life can be up to more than 10 hours. It can be said that the battery of this ultra-thin laptop is actually very high.

Final line

Asus ZenBook Flip S UX370UA is currently the thinnest 360-degree swivel laptop on the market, with a robust configuration and massive battery life. Certainly, this is a great assistant in your work.

We’re happy to see that creature comforts such as the excellent screen and backlit keyboard are common across the board. We aren’t thrilled about the lack of useful ports, which is the only truly major limitation here.

When we really get down to it, we have to pause to consider who this laptop is really aimed at, with its $899.00 price tag. It’s good for casual gaming, but then too you’re restricted to older titles at lower quality settings.

Pros:

Looks great; thin and light
Comfortable trackpad and keyboard
Excellent screen

Cons:

Not enough USB ports
High Price
