Qualcomm unveiled a new series of laptops equipped with Snapdragon 835 processor during the Snapdragon Technology Summit at Maui, Hawaii. These are Windows 10 laptops made by HP and ASUS with support for LTE “Always Connected” features.
Both laptops with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with a higher than average battery life – it is about 20 hours of continuous use – as well as a low weight, an extremely thin profile and efficient operation without the need for a fan cooling.
The HP Envy X2 is the first of two, 2-in-1 laptop which is an extremely light and thin – just 680 grams weight and for 6.9 mm thin profile. It features a 12.3-inch display with WUXGA+ resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, up to 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage and Gigabit Snapdragon X16 LTE modem for lightning-fast download speeds of up to 1Gbps.
The detachable tablet is compatible with the Windows Ink pen and can be used in different positions thanks to the integrated stand that can be positioned at an angle between 110 and 150 degrees, while the backlit keyboard ensures optimal use in all lighting conditions.
HP Envy X2 offers Windows 10S as an operating system, and there is also support for WiFi, dual front speakers, and Windows Hello facial recognition. As of now, Qualcomm and HP have not revealed the price yet, we will have to wait until next spring to buy it.
The second laptop is branded Asus NovaGO (TP370), it is the “first Gigabit LTE laptop in the world” (with integrated e-SIM) that allows you to download a 2-hour movie in just 10 seconds thanks to the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem offers truly global connectivity with 4CA support covering various bands. Four antennas ensure ultrafast connectivity through LTE Advanced Cat 16 cellular networking, while dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and MU-MIMO technology provide download speeds of up to 867Mbps.
Asus NovaGO has Windows 10S as an operating system (free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro), provides a 13.3-inch NanoEdge display with FullHD resolution, a 78% screen-to-body ratio and support to ASUS Pen sensitive to 1024 pressure levels. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB / 8GB of RAM and 64GB / 256GB of integrated storage.
The laptop weight is 1.39kg and 14.9mm thick profile, ideal for use on the go. Completing the datasheet with the dual-band WiFI 802.11ac connectivity, the MU-MIMO technology, two USB 3.1 ports, an HDMI connector and a microSD reader. The battery life of the NovaGO is rated to deliver up to 22 hours of use and up to 30 days of standby time.
ASUS NovaGO price has been set at $599 for 4GB + 64GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256 storage will cost $799, but no further details on its availability.
