Astell&Kern presented A&ultima SP1000 – a portable audio player and DAC that will be positioned at the top of the range. This model is made of stainless steel, the measures are 75.8 (W) x 132 (H) x 16.2 (D) mm with a weight of 386.6 grams. On the front is a 5.0-inch touchscreen LCD display with HD resolution (720 x 1280 pixels). Inside there is latest AKM AK4497EQ dual DAC (digital-to-analog converter), capable of supporting sampling frequencies up to 384kHz / 32-bit.
The Astell&Kern A&ultima SP1000 sport various types of files, including WAV, FLAC, WMA, MP3, OGG, APE (Normal, High, Fast), AAC, ALAC, AIFF, DFF, DSF, PCM and DSD256 (11.2MHz). Connectivity is also very wide, A&ultima SP1000 can connect to other devices via Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n (2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 4.1 (A2DP, AVRCP and aptX HD). You can also connect sources via the USB 3.0 Type-C port (for example a PC, so use SP1000 as DAC), which also allows the rapid charging.
The processor has been greatly enhanced compared with previous models. The current top of the range, AK380, uses a dual-core, while A&ultima SP1000 has an octa-core SoC. The manufacturer declares much faster boot performance, transfers files faster, redesigned and improved user interfaces experience without lag.
The volume wheel also controls the switching on and off of the device and the LCD display as well. The battery has a capacity of 3200mAh with about 12 hours of juice, and it can be fully charged in just two hours. There is 256GB internal storage to store songs and also sports a microSD slot (up to 256GB): in total, you can reach 512GB of memory. To complete the device, we find a balanced output, headphone output, and an optical digital output.
