Alongside the new iPad Pro 11 Tablet, Apple’s most popular new MacBook 2020 is finally getting the technology it deserves: Apple is giving the new MacBook Air massive upgrades, especially with regard to the processor, graphics chip, keyboard, and memory. There are also many detail upgrades.
Externally, almost everything will remain the same in MacBook 2020: The new MacBook Air comes with a wedge-shaped, maximum 1.6 cm thin case, a weight of 1.29 kg and a 13.3-inch retina display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 Pixels at 227 PPI. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the power button and the two Thunderbolt 3 ports as the only wired connection to the outside world remain unchanged, and thanks to the faster graphics, even a 6K screen can now be connected.
The processor, on the other hand, is new and, according to Apple, twice as fast compared to the previous model. The technical data only speak of an Intel Core i3 dual-core chip with clock frequencies from 1.1 to 3.3 GHz or an Intel Core i5 quad-core processor with clock frequencies from 1.1 to 3.5 GHz, neither the exact chips and the processor generation are given.
If you take the clock frequencies, the number of cores and the integrated Iris Plus graphics as a guide, the i5 could be an Intel Core i5-1030G7 with an increased base clock, Ice Lake seems to be the most likely candidate. The graphics chip is said to have been up to 80 percent faster. There are either 8GB or 16GB LPDDR4X-3733 RAM and a PCIe SSD with a capacity between 256GB and 2TB.
In addition to the performance, customers should especially be happy about the completely new keyboard: As with the 16-inch MacBook Pro from the previous year, Apple is again relying on a scissor mechanism and a key stroke of a full millimeter. As usual, the keyboard is illuminated, an ambient light sensor can regulate the brightness of the lighting.
The Force Touch Trackpad, which has always been excellent on MacBooks, has grown again by 25 percent. Thanks to the T2 security chip, “Hey Siri” is now always ready. In the new model, the loudspeakers should offer three times more bass and be 25 percent louder overall, and three microphones ensure precise voice recording.
