AMD launches Radeon Pro WX graphics cards line and Radeon Pro SSG Solution

AMD has officially announced the new Radeon Pro WX Series of professional graphics cards, Radeon Pro WX 7100 will be top notch GPU, at the Capsaicin Siggraph 2016 Exhibition. AMD said the new professional graphics cards line would be a workstation solution for professional VR content creation, but also economical in price. AMD Radeon Pro WX

AMD Radeon Pro WX series will have three cards, all based on the Polaris architecture and is expected to sell in Q4 of this year. With this launch, the company said that “all new professional-grade graphics help our customers with complex projects that demand the highest performance,” Also mentioned, We know our workstation customers can rely on AMD FirePro™ graphics when coupled with the performance and reliability of HP Z Workstations, and we look forward to offering Radeon Pro graphics in the future.”

AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 is based on Polaris 10, one of the top line graphics card has the ability to undertake the complex task of engineering designs, high image processing for the entertainment industry and also a workstation solution for professionals who develop content for VR (virtual reality), priced at $1000. AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100

This card comes with a 2048 stream processors, 128 TMUs and 32 ROPs. Its performance is expected to more than 5 TFOPs when calculating single precision (FP32). It packs in 8GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 7GB/s, 256-bit bus interface, 224GB/s bandwidth. It uses single 6-pin power port shows its TDP will be approximately 150W. This dedicated card feature 4 x DisplayPort 1.3 ports, supports up to 5K screen at 30Hz. Another feature of the professional card is a small blower fan that pushes air through a circular aluminum fin heat sink.

AMD Radeon Pro WX 5100 also using Polaris 10 and is seen as the ideal solution for for product development, powered by the impending game-engine revolution in design visualization. It features 1792 stream processors and similar to 7100, 5100 will also be equipped with 8GB of GDDR5 memory with 256-bit bus interface but its clock speed is lower than expected. While TDP is also expected to be less than 75W. 2

AMD said WX 5100 will have high processing power and support 4 TFOPs and 4 x display port 1.3 ports that can simultaneously drive the 5K display at 30Hz. The design of this card is quite small, just like the Radeon Fury Nano, with the cooling system.

AMD Radeon Pro WX 4100 based on Polaris 11 is a mid-range solution for CAD professionals to small form factor workstations. The 4100 is also one of the first Polaris 11 based graphics card features 16 compute units which include 1024 stream processors. Performance of the card is over 2 TFLOPs, 4GB of GDDR5 memory running across a 128-bit interface, clocked at 7 GHz to deliver 112 GB/s bandwidth. It has very compact design, comes with 4 x Mini DisplayPort connectors, will be priced under $500. 5

Along with the all new Radeon Pro WX professional graphics card series, AMD also introduced that they are developing a new Radeon Pro solution for large dataset applications, which will be available initially as a developer kit – named Radeon Pro SSG. This technology will allows the professional graphics cards to achieve memory capacity up to 1TB, which also improves performance when running high-end applications.

AMD Radeon Pro SSG (Solid State Graphics) Solution is considered as an ideal demand for next generation graphics processor in the near future. During the world’s first demonstration of a Radeon Pro SSG solution, 8K raw video timeline scrubbing was accelerated from 17 frames per second to a stunning 90+ frames per second. As content creators rapidly adopt 8K resolution to future-proof their content, a 5X performance boost will improve quality of life, productivity and efficiency in the editing process.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Raja Koduri, senior vice president and chief architect, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD. said, “One of the most challenging constraints faced by GPU computing applications is the inability to access terabytes of data,” also add, “Radeon Pro SSG is poised to not only speed-up processing for many applications with very large datasets, but also to enable new application experiences by utilizing data persistence of non-volatile memory. This will be a disruptive advancement for many graphics and compute applications.” Radeon Pro SSG

Mr. Patrick Moorhead, Founder and Principal Analyst, Moor Insights & Strategy, said, “AMD has a long history of memory technology innovations, and Radeon Pro SSG is the latest example,” also add, “Larger local memory on the graphics card can speed-up processing for many applications with very large datasets, and should also allow for results with finer granularity and resolution. This will be a notable advancement for many graphics and compute applications.”

The Radeon Pro SSG for the developer kits will be cost up to $9,999, The commercial variant is expected to release in 2017.
