Amazon has introduced the 3rd generation Kindle Oasis with 7-inch display, improving page turning speed as well as adding color temperature adjustment features. Unfortunately, the device continues to use an outdated micro USB charger.
In addition to the new features, the 3rd generation Kindle Oasis remains the same specs compared to the 2nd generation, such as the 300-PPI 7-inch E Ink screen, easy one-hand grip design, waterproof, and Bluetooth support for Audible reading books. It is IPX8 rated to protect against immersion in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. Apart from this, users can adjust the text size and boldness and read with Kindle-exclusive fonts for maximum readability.
The biggest highlight of the 3rd generation Kindle Oasis is the ability to change the color temperature of the screen, making it easier for users to read at night or simply like the yellow color like real paper. You can schedule a switch like a phone’s Night Mode or manual adjustment. This feature is also the biggest difference of Oasis compared to the lower line, PaperWhite, which has recently been added to the water feature.
Amazon said it also uses new e-Ink technology to speed up page turning but doesn’t say how much it improves compared to 2nd generation Oasis. It measures 159 x 141 x 3.4-8.3 mm and weighs 194 grams. This new Kindle comes in two storage variants i.e., 8GB and 32GB and users get free cloud storage for all Amazon content. The connectivity options include WiFi 802.11n and supports formats like Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF and more. There is also a 4G version.
Price and Availability
The new Kindle Oasis is priced at $249.99 for the 8GB Graphite version, $279.99 for the 32GB WiFi Champagne Gold version. It will be available from August 19 and is available for pre-order today at Amazon.com.
