Amazon has updated the original Kindle, new Kindle as usual comes with the cheapest prices and is up for pre-order on Amazon from today and will start shipping on July 7. It has been attractively priced at $79.99. The Kindle Paperwhite has also been updated and now is available in White color options as well, it can be also pre-ordered via Amazon, priced at $119.99.
Most of features and specifications remain same as the previous model, but the new Kindle has doubled the memory from 256MB to 512MB of RAM, thinner (9.1mm) and lighter (161g) though still using traditional design without a new style like recently announced Kindle Oasis.
New Kindle 2016 has still lack of built-in LED backlight, but adds Bluetooth connectivity means that you can listen music or audio through external speakers or headphones. Whereas the Kindle Paperwhite has no Bluetooth connectivity, but the resolution has been updated to 300ppi and 4 LEDs backlit to reading in the dark environment.
New Kindle has the same 6-inch touchscreen display with (600 x 800 pixels) resolution can translate a pixel density of 167ppi. The ebook reader packs in 4GB of internal storage which is able to store thousands of books, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity. It offers up to 4 weeks (wireless of) of battery life.
Commenting on the launch, Amazon said: “Unlike reflective tablet and smartphone screens, the high contrast touchscreen display on Kindle eliminates glare in any setting, even in direct sunlight,”
“Recent studies have shown that evening exposure to blue light from backlit screens like tablets and smartphones can suppress the body’s production of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps the body fall asleep. Because the Kindle display emits no light, you can read anytime without losing sleep.”
